THE LETTER E

EAGLE

Shown in the photo above is the taxidermied remains of the Philippine Eagle named Geothermica, or Geo for short. The Philippine Eagle is considered as the largest of the extant eagles in the world in terms of length and wing surface area. It is the national bird of the Philippines and is even depicted in the new Philippine polymer one thousand-peso note. This species had been classified by the IUCN Red List as critically endangered with a declining population and is one of the most endangered raptors in the world. I took this photo in the National Museum of the Philippines in Davao City.

ELEPHANT

This again is the taxidermied remains of Mali, or Vishwa Ma' Ali, the longtime elephant resident of the Manila Zoological and Botanical Garden in the Philippines. For years, before his death, Mali had been a favorite attraction in the Zoo, wowing crowds with antics not expected of elephants. After he died and taxidermied, the remains are prominently displayed at the main entrance of the zoo.

EGG

I saw this in an art exhibit I visited. My attention was drawn to it because for a moment I thought it was a white balloon. There were about 5 of them all lined up in a row. Underneath this white object was the description of the piece and it turned out this is an ostrich's egg with illustration in ink of a Philippine Eagle. According to the artist, it is her way of creating awareness of the endangered specie.

ESCALATOR

I can just imagine how shopping was made so much more convenient with the introduction of the escalator.
