The Media always tries to get our attention with very captivating Captions, we end up believing them always without making our own research.

Few hours ago, I saw a post on Instagram with the caption:
"After spending years in school, burning candles, the best grad was awarded the sum of #10,000"

This didn't go down well with me at all because I was a witness at the induction yesterday being 7th August, 2017.

This got almost 5000 likes and still counting in few minutes but those were not the truth. I am here to share the truth as a witness.

Remember I told you all about my friend who graduated from Medical School yesterday?
Well, they were both classmates.

The Best graduating student got 6 distinctions out of 9 courses. That's a record no one else has broken in the history of University of Nigeria. That's to show that she's indeed a Legend. She was greatly celebrated. I personally stood up all through the period she was receiving her awards and recognition.

In a bid to celebrate and appreciate her, she received #91,000(about 227$) and over #140,000 (about 350$) from two different organizations for being the number of distinctions she got and for best graduating student.

The #10,000(25$) she received was from the student body- University of Nigeria Medical Student Association(UNMSA) which she happens to be a member of. This was an initiative that was brought up by her fellow students in the association just to appreciate her. I also believe that more organizations might also honour her very soon.
So the #10,000 that was being talked about wasn't the only money she received.

This is not to say that the over #240,000 (over 600$) she received is enough honour for all her late night candles but my problem with the media is why ignore the other money she received and focus on only #10,000(25$).
I want to believe that they didn't get their facts right!

I am an advocate of Rewards and I hope that we start Rewarding our Children, wards, and students for academic achievement for no amount of money can take the place of knowledge. I hope with this, we will get our facts right.

I hope this was helpful?
