As a professional Director of Photography, I started like many DP's in the film industry as a photographer, however, I did not start as a digital photographer but as a film photographer. My film camera is an old Soviet Union Zenit that was once my grandfathers. I use a Vivitar 20MM lens and also a Helio 52MM lens. Not many options for such old cameras but the 20MM is my go to. I love wide image photography and a 20mm on a full frame 35mm film camera is just spectacular. Something a lot of photographers will never experience.

On the next 2 weeks I will be traveling and enjoying some good R&R on some great places throughout California, Nevada, Utah and Arizona. While on this trip I will be documenting on both digital and film.

I love the look, feel and texture of film, my go to film stock is Ilford B&W 50ISO (ASA) stock film. It's a super slow film but creates some of the most magnificent images. Over the years I have used 100 and 400 stock but honestly my love is 50. Impossible to shoot at night without extreme long exposure but during the day it's priceless.

The other reason I love film is because of the camera since it's film everything is mechanical, no batteries to charge, no chargers to forget. Just load up the film and go shoot. It's amazing and an extremely freeing process. I would highly recommend anyone that has never tried film photography to do it. It's an experience you will always remember.

But the most important reason for film photography in this digital age is: PRINT. That's right you print the images you get to actually hold them in your hand. It's kind of a lost art but for me it is something I love.

I will post some more images of the trip and travel.
