As a regular internet user, I am used to be on Facebook, Instagram, Youtube and others social networks. In those platforms, we always get some kind of privacy (At least that's what they make us believe) but here on Steemit, everything is immutable and publicly available in the Steem blockchain. This might be scary by many factors. For example, what I think today can be totally different from tomorrow or I can write an embarrassing mistake or I don't want that everyone sees all my information, because privacy is a big deal.

The definition of privacy from Wikipedia is:
Privacy is the ability of an individual or group to seclude themselves, or information about themselves, and thereby express themselves selectively.
Which for me is partially correct as I consider it a need instead of an ability, therefore if Steemit wants to become larger it should add some feature like Twitter's DM or some kind private group.
Because by definition a blockchain cannot be changed, at least we can encrypt some data and only make some people the ability to decrypt it. I can imagine the use of private-public pair of keys to talk with other people privately and also with groups (Like everyone that have the private key can decrypt the post of that private group). Maybe this is not what matters in Steemit and it will always be an "everything is public" platform because at the end this network seeks and pays attention.
As a final thought, I feel much better here where everything is public than in Facebook where my private data is been sold the who knows who.
