Earlier this year, I decided to write my first novel. I took inspiration from several of my favorite games. The plot is inspired by Life Is Strange, my favorite gaming series. A character with a superpower. I based the character on Susie from Deltarune. I’m typing the final draft that’ll go to an editor for revisions. Several versions were written before I chose to base it on my favorite Life Is Strange game. I’ll give Kofi subscribers exclusive access to past concepts before I found a plot I liked more.
To remind you of the plot: After trying and failing to channel everyone’s energy to give them hope for the 2024 election, V, heartbroken by the state of everything, tries to use her power to instill hope and determination in people to fight for their country. Channeling their energy from scared to determined. You can say V is using her power to help folks face their first dictatorship. V isn’t the best at expressing her emotions and understanding them. V's magical connection grows the more she realizes it's her fight too, and she can't tell future generations she bailed. The character was originally called Chloe until I played Cyberpunk 2077 again and became obsessed with the game
V uses her channeling power to influence others’ emotions. She can manipulate enemies as well. So far, I have 4-5 chapters typed out.
Based on the advice from Threads, contemporary fantasy fits the theme. The book is about emotions; the cover will have a colorful theme. Colors are a great metaphor for emotions. Remember in the cartoons when we were kids, you’d see a rain cloud over a character when they were sad- something like that, but you’d see blue. Refer to Life Is Strange: True Colors, when Alex read NPCs’ emotions; she heard their thoughts and knew how to help them. V’s power is similar, except V reads their social media posts, hears the fear or anxiety, and channels it into something positive.
I wrote it as a coping mechanism.
I’m on a budget, so I’ll use my photography to make a cover. I have a lot of golden hour photos to edit into a colorful cover. Due to the rise in AI and not having the experience to spot AI, I chose to make my own. Unless something stands out like a sore thumb, I’ll have no idea a photo is AI-generated.
I’m not sure when it’ll be out. I’m aiming for an early 2027 window. Hopefully I’ll be done by December. Anything can change. If not December, then spring of 2027.
