During my teenage years, I had an experience that filled me with excitement and anxiety on many nights, as I wanted to watch television until the early hours of the morning. It turns out that Fox Kids had a program called "Sleepless Nights on Fox Kids," which started at 10 p.m. and lasted throughout the night and part of the early morning. I admit that the creators of this segment knew what they were doing, as they saved the most exciting cartoons or series for the late hours, forcing you to stay tuned from beginning to end. In my case, perhaps it wasn't so forced, as I thought the entire program was great. It's amazing how much anticipation was generated during the day about what I might see. While many saw the night as an invitation to sleep and rest, I longed for it to come quickly and then begged for time to slow down, even feeling more restless about what I would do at night than what I could do during the day. I remember that one of my cousins, who also liked to go to bed late, always said, "The night is young," implying how much could be done before thinking about going to rest. It could be 11 or 12 at night, and my cousin would still repeat the phrase as if it were a slogan or a commercial jingle.

I say this because sometimes I know I need to rest, but then I look at the clock and say to myself, "Wow! It's only 10 o'clock!" And then I start organizing something that I could have done during the day or left for the next day, and I end up keeping myself busy with some kind of commitment. It's as if I decide on my own that going to bed early would be a waste of time, and let's be honest, if we look for something to do at home, no matter how small, we'll always find something. I'm probably getting ahead of myself with the following, but late nights have also lent themselves to having a close experience with a family member. I remember one time when one of my brothers was going through a difficult time due to his separation from his partner, and on several nights we used to stay up until the early hours of the morning talking about many things and watching movies. I confess that sometimes I have to fight that tendency, especially when I know that my body needs to recover in every way. Those who know how I spend my nights are curious to know if all that intensity is fueled by a cup of hot chocolate or good coffee, but although I love both, my desire to keep doing things late into the night seems quite natural. "The night is young," and therefore there is much to do and also to inspire. En mi caso quizás no era algo tan forzado ya que toda la programación me parecía genial. Es impresionante todo lo que se generaba durante el día en cuanto a las expectativas de lo que podría ver. Mientras muchos veían la noche como una invitación para dormir y descansar, yo añoraba que llegara pronto y luego rogaba para que el tiempo fuera más lento, incluso sintiendo más inquietud por lo que haría en la noche en comparación con lo que podía hacer durante el día. Recuerdo que una de mis primas a quien también le gustaba irse a dormir tarde siempre decía: "La noche es joven", dando a entender lo mucho que se podía hacer antes de pensar en ir a descansar. Lo digo porque en ocasiones estoy consciente de que necesito descansar, pero entonces veo el reloj y me digo a mi mismo: ¡Vaya! ¡Apenas son las 10! Y entonces empiezo a organizar algo que a lo mejor hasta pude hacer durante el día o lo podría dejar para el siguiente, y así termino ocupándome con cierto compromiso. Es como si por mi propia cuenta determinara que irme a dormir temprano sería una pérdida de tiempo, y siendo sinceros si buscamos algo que hacer en casa, por muy mínimo que sea siempre vamos a encontrar algo. Probablemente con lo siguiente hasta me esté adelantado a un posible tema para otra iniciativa, y es que también las altas horas de las noches se han prestado para tener una experiencia cercana con un familiar. En una ocasión recuerdo que uno de mis hermanos estaba pasando por un duelo debido a la separación de su pareja, y en varias noches solíamos quedarnos hasta muy de madrugada hablando de muchas cosas y viendo películas. Confieso que a veces debo luchar con esa tendencia sobre todo cuando sé que mi cuerpo necesita recuperarse en todo sentido. A quienes saben como manejo mis noches les da curiosidad por saber si toda esa intensidad es abonada con una taza de chocolate o buen café, pero aunque me encantan ambos, mi deseo de seguir haciendo cosas hasta tarde en la noche parece bastante natural. "La noche es joven", y por lo tanto queda mucho por hacer y también por inspirar.
