Not before one final BBQ though.
Today is the last day of 2025. The year ends earlier here in Australia because that's how it works with time zones and all, and I'll be among the first to experience 2026.
I usually don't do much to "celebrate" new year's eve, it's simply another day and one year turning to the next doesn't excite me; I use it as an ending and starting point for my goals though, and it's those goals that truly excite me.
I prefer a BBQ at home (mine or someone else's) instead of going out as there's too many drunk wankers out there these days, and this year I'm doing a BBQ at my house with some friends.
It'll be the usual stuff like beef steaks, venison (I shot it myself) and chicken on the BBQ, some salads, a charcuterie board and cheesecake, ice cream and berries for dessert. Sound good?
I'm not the worlds best BBQ cook but I'm told I do a reasonable job and that's because I care about what I do; getting the best ingredients and having some knowledge around how best to prepare them is the key and earlier today I spent some time at my local market getting all the stuff I'll need and having a general look around...and many taste tests.
I love that aspect of hosting a BBQ, the choices of foods and getting my thoughts together and planning for what will end up being a success - I've had a few failures of course, but not for a long time. I don't get complaints from guests when I host a BBQ generally and that's a good thing - I put a lot of effort into ensuring my friends are well-catered for.
Searing some flesh, drinking a few beverages, great music and hanging out with some friends is how I'll close-out 2025. I'm looking forward to it and although tomorrow morning won't feel much different it'll be the first day of the new year and the first day I'll start chasing down my new goals.
