I've been watching the comment thread on this excellent piece of writing with interest, but only now have been motivated to comment myself.

I'm confused as to why this user is being singled out and lectured, (saying it's not a lecture doesn't make it not a lecture), in this way when there's so many posts in this community that are, (in my uneducated opinion), complete and utter rubbish that have not been so addressed - Maybe being deemed as fiction is enough, and spelling, punctuation, sentence construction and all of the other various elements of writing are ignored as long as it ticks the fiction box.

It's also interesting to note that many of those rubbish posts have a cursory comment (if anything) from the community-owner and no real engagement from any of the admins (who promote engagement like a mantra in cut and pasted comments), but maybe they're otherwise engaged with their fingers poised over the mute button.

Jayna, I never finished high school, I'm a simple man, a blunt instrument, so probably don't know how to write very well - certainly, I don't have a degree in creative writing to boast about - however I'm understanding enough of the English language to see the continued commenting on this users post is unproductive for your community and her, and is pushing has probably pushed her away for good.

How you and your other community admins run the community is your prerogative and you may act as you see fit, as do I in my own communities; I don't presume to suggest otherwise of course. However, I found this piece completely enjoyable, loved how the writer linked back to her previous coffee shop story called, I said yes, and offered some background on that initial piece. I thought the post was very good, but what do I know, I don't have a degree in writing.

I'll admit to initially feeling a little miffed that this user who uses her own photos, writes with some skill, is passionate and willing to open up to the community somewhat, responds to comments in a timely manner and powers up, not down, has been treated here but I'm over it. I just hope she has not been scared away completely, and that she exercises her right as a Hive community member to write as, and where, she pleases, whilst complying with individual communities' guidelines of course. I would welcome such excellent content in my communities, I invite it.

All the best Jayna.
