I find war memorials interesting places, but sad. Of course, it always fills me with pride that the people memorialised there had the strength of character and will to do what they did. I would say America has many such memorials considering her long history. I'd like to visit some.

One of the most moving places I've been was the Minim Gate, Ypres, Belgium. I'll do a post someday. It was a WW1 memorial and 2000 hours each night, since World War One, there has been a last post ceremony there...I went three nights running. People come from all over to be a part of it. Military people, community clubs, schools...It's very moving.

The only time it was not held was through the Second World War as it was in occupied territory for the second time as the German's swept through. It's an incredibly moving experience, as the last post often is, and it seemed a fitting place to be as Faith and I toured the battlefields, memorials and cemetery's of France and Belgium for 5 days.
