Change

A couple years ago I started a community called THE WEEKEND as somewhere I could place posts revolving around my weekend activities. Hive communities were a new invention at the time and I thought it would be smart to use one in this way, a file as such making it easy for me to refer back to later down the track.

I had visions of scrolling through post after post of my own weekend content and enjoying those moments all over again. But, as they say in military circles, no plan survives contact with the enemy intact.

Before long, others were posting in my weekend community, which I didn't mind of course. It was right about then I decided to put a few standards in place as I wanted my community to have a certain look and feel. It was my community after all and I felt, considering it was mine, a few rules would help keep it looking and feeling like something I could be happy with seeing each day.

I wrote a set of rules that are clearly displayed on the community landing page and backed it up with a posting guide which you can see here and pinned at the top of the community landing page. It sets out suggestions on content, presentation and, of course, the rules I have put in place.

Following rules...and not

Most have followed the guidelines and those who have not have been addressed with comments requesting edits to their posts and I've muted posts and downvoted based on a case by case determination.

I've done that to maintain the standard I've set for my community and have been fair and equitable and certainly not biased or discriminatory. Have people whined and complained at being muted? Yes, some have, however only a very few.

Most have been accepting and respectful of the rules, amended their posts to suit and, once they let me know their edits have taken place, have been unmuted and upvoted. It's important to me to maintain integrity and so I have approached any posts not suitable in content in the same way, in accordance with the rules.

It's not a personal attack on the author, it's about the failure to follow the community rules and I've muted posts from my friends if they have not complied with them just as readily as I've muted complete strangers; it's important to maintain a standard that is fair and equitable across the board and so I've worked hard to do so.

I have read some amazing content in this community some of which has been entries to my #weekend-engagement concept which I release each Friday at around 08:00 UTC which is late Friday afternoon my time. Despite this community being designed (initially) around me posting in it I'm very pleased to see such great posts added in by the folks on Hive. So, thank you for your efforts and continued support which means a great deal to me.

A change

A few days ago I was contemplating the community name and decided a change might be a good thing. I went ahead and change the name to WEEKEND EXPERIENCES which I thought reflected the purpose of the community a little better considering it is designed around the experiences we have on the weekend, no matter what they are.

What won't change is the rules, not to any great degree anyway, as they're there to ensure I like my community, feel good about it and to help it retain a nice feel for all who engage with it.

I welcome posts from all users and respect the time and effort that goes into them; as I said, I've seen so many really great posts in this community. I'll not compromise my own standards when it comes to dealing with posts that do not meet the rules of my community though.

Almost everyone has accepted that and are happy to comply. Sure, some make mistakes through ignorance of the rules or forgetfulness now and then, but mostly they're good about it when I address them. And those that don't like or agree with my community rules, well...I'll certainly respect their choice never to post in it again, just as they can expect me to apply my community rules to be applied to their posts.

If some of you folks feel like sharing your weekend experiences in my community from time to time feel free to do so. You don't have to wait until the weekend, post any day, just make the content strongly weekend-oriented and follow the rules.
