A hairy pink thingy

I think it's fair to say this pink thingy didn't get the memo about trimming, waxing and shaving; it's let things get a little out of control...but seems not to care...talk about letting it all hang out huh? Although, at least this Zygocactus owns it I guess, and to be honest it makes the look, look good. Ok, maybe that's too far of a stretch.

I've been watching the flowers emerge on the Zygocactus for a little while now and really wish I had the ability to do one of those time-lapse videos as I think it'd look super cool.

It's pretty weird how the blooms come out of the very tips of the plants leaves which look somewhat like segments of crab's arms, and those hairs are weird too. Instead of a time lapse I grabbed a few shots with my camera and down the track will take a few more as the flowers begin to open; they really are quite an interesting looking flower when in full bloom. I don't find the plant attractive when not flowering, it's too cactussy for me...but I keep it around as it looks so great in bloom. Cactussy is a word now.

The next few shots are of one of my early bloomers, sweet peas, which seem to have been impatient to emerge. The sweet pea is a rather unstructured plant, both the foliage and the flowers, but they have beautiful colours as you can see.

These are a collection of blooms I've brought inside and there's not many of them, just a few early ones hence the tight shots. I took these in my kitchen where they sit on the bench in a vase and none of you need to see images of my kitchen, it's not that exciting. I love the delicate nature of these flowers, how the veins come through in the petals and, of course, the colours are quite nice too.

That's it today, a few snaps of some of the colours in my garden at the moment. I'm looking forward to all my sweet peas to come into bloom, they look so nice and the fragrance is lovely too. It's always a good moment to open the windows and allow the spring breezes to carry the scent inside. As for the Zygocactus, it'll be in full bloom soon too and I'll grab some more photos of it and share them eventually.
