Pigeons in our city are fed more than other birds at any time of the year. They are not afraid of people and, when the opportunity arises, beg for food from them. These are such brave birds. For two days in a row, yesterday and today I watched as the pigeon climbed into the feeder for small birds. I was worried about him - the feeders are not designed for such large birds. Under its weight, the feeder could break off and fall down. It's good that this did not happen.
While the pigeon sat in the feeder and pecked at the seeds intended for small birds, the boy and the girl fed his friends with food.
But the pigeon never left the feeder. He was close, could see how his friends feast on food. But the pigeon was persistent, apparently, he liked the seeds more than other food.
In this shot, a pigeon creeps up to the feeder. He sees me and pretends that he just sat down on a branch to rest.
Now almost a dove is at the target.
And then he boldly climbed into the trough. Sometimes he glances at me. Here is such a cunning dove.
The pigeon realized that he was safe. I will not drive him out of the trough. Although there was a desire. On other branches not far away, titmouses and nuthatches observed the pigeon. The seeds in the trough were intended for them. But the dove is also a pity. The bird does not understand that the food is not for him.
And here, next to the same place, the pigeon is already in a different feeder. It was yesterday. There are also seeds for small birds. But the nimble pigeon decided that first of all he should eat the seeds.
How hard he tries.
The dove pecked at the seeds for a very long time. It was bitter cold outside and the camera battery could not stand it, and it stopped working.
The dove is a large bird. I decided to take a picture of him with my smartphone. I had to come closer. With this I scared the pigeon. He flew away. But that's good. He ate too many seeds for one bird.
If you want to feed only small birds in winter, then it is better not to hang such feeders. Small birds may not get food.
