Land is currently the hottest topic in Splinterlands. It is likely going to remain the hottest topic for the entire year, and well beyond that.
Maybe it doesn't hurt to remind people where we are now and the future milestones for the Land expansion.
We are currently at version 0.5 of the land expansion, which allows you to basically claim your plots into land deeds and see their position on a high-level map. You can also trade deeds. This week players won't even be able to claim their plots, while the final touches of the next release are prepared.
The next release of the land expansion comes today on the mavericks' QA server (for a preview) and next week for real in the game.
Land 1.0 will be focused on surveying the land.
When a land plot will be surveyed, all its characteristics will be known:
There will be improvements to the map too, as well as the addition of filters based on the characteristics listed above.
When surveying takes place, starter packsnote to self: needs def can be purchased for each land plot. Two of them are plot-bound ("Building in a Box" and "Unstable Totem"), and the other one will include tradable tokens ("Time Vault").
For every land plot surveyed, there is the possibility to include any of the above starter packs (including all or none). Adding starter packs is done before the actual surveying, so you won't know the rarity of the plot when you choose the associated starter packs!
Additionally, there are guarantees to receive a certain number of plots of different rarities and categories when surveying exactly 100 plots at a time.
All these elements need to be taken into consideration since surveying comes live a week from now.
On top of that, there is an SPS proposal live right now that talks about directing land SPS rewards only to people who survey land going forward until land 1.5 goes live. If it passes, those who survey the land will receive more SPS rewards, and those who don't will get none.
What's next after surveying?
The next phase is land expansion 1.5, nicknamed the Secret of Praetoria. The likely deadline for its arrival is the end of Q2, maybe the beginning of July which is Q3. Practically, it's a super-simplified version of land 2.0, with only one resource, no buildings (other than keeps and castles), and other simplifications.
And finally, by the end of this year, we should expect land expansion 2.0, which is what has been talked about in numerous town halls as what will land include, up until the production of items and spells, which is the following phase, that will be developed in 2024.
Initially, land 1.5 wasn't planned, and the evolution would have been from land 1.0 to land 2.0. But land 1.5 brings enough features out to give players something to do until 2.0 is ready.
As a player or investor in Splinterlands' land, it is very important to know the details. This can save us from making costly mistakes in these early stages which are in a state of flux.
