I can't even write this without feeling bitter and looking for who to abuse. They tell you Nigeria is not at war, but thousands of people have died since January. The mere fact that even I cannot give you a proper estimate shows the collective lack of empathy on the path of our people. As bodies pile up, people have simply given up and lost count.
The silence of the international media is heartbreaking, but the silence of our own Government, and the people makes it unbearable. Systemic eethnic cleansings are now simply labelled 'communual clashes' in other to couch the real grieveness of the situation.
I am beginning to doubt whether true empathy really exists. Rather than uniting under a common voice to stand against evil, alligences have rather been switched to ethnic, political and religious divides. We are all suffering from collective trauma, so much that the news of 200 human lives brutally cut short doesn't warrant even a brief pause from our daily activities.
Maybe I am the short-sighted one for complaining. It actually gets nowhere, and the 'complainers' before me have achieved nothing. I don't know what else to do though, I've been a complainer all my life. All I know is this - those who perform evil continue to do so as long as they go unchallenged.
