Nowadays many people who have a PC Gamer worry about various factors when assembling it, among them is having an SSD of excellent performance, a good graphics card or even a good cooling system, but there is something that always take into account at the time of assembly, is the sound produced by its components.

Normally there are few components that make some sound in the computer, among them we can find Hard Disks, Fan Coolers or disk drives (DVD or Blu Ray), but over the years the companies that manufacture this type of hardware have been developing new technologies so that they do not emit as much noise when working.

This has become a trend in the PC world, the less a computer sounds when you turn it on, the better it is for the user, however, decades ago this was not the case. Between the 80's and 90's computers were a little noisy in many ways, at no time we stopped listening to the sound produced by fans or hard drives.

Although it seems strange, sometimes I feel a little nostalgic for those times, that is why through this little article we will travel to the past to remember all the noisy things of the old computers.

Let's start with the power button, before the existence of the switches that we know today, they used a kind of current pass button, this was because the sources used were the AT, the only thing that did not allow the passage of energy to the mother board and its components was this button, at the time of pressing it the sound was very characteristic, it seemed as if we were manipulating a breaker of electricity.

Then when the PC had power the sound of the hard disk was unique, you could hear how their internal disks began to spin and then the classic sound of the head making the boot readings, then always the Floppy reader to its characteristic sound to verify its operation.

Like forgetting when we inserted a floppy disk, each unit had its own characteristic sound, the ones I remember most are the 8" floppy disks, which you had to insert and lock with a kind of handle so they wouldn't come out, and the 3½" ones which are very remembered, every time I played a video game that reading sound I made was totally unforgettable.

Then the time would come when PCs had to use Fan Coolers, they also had a characteristic sound, because in those times there was no regulation of revolutions per minute from our system, they always sounded like a kind of heat extractor, but for some reason these sounds never bothered me.

These and other elements evolved over time, to the point of having totally silent computers, almost indispensable to our ears, however, it is interesting to look a little bit into the past and notice how technology has changed, before it was thought "the more sound is more powerful" now it is "the less noise is better". Next time I will talk about the current trend on the size of the cases, which I consider a very interesting topic.
