There are moments in video games where every gamer can feel happiness, satisfaction and even fear, but one of the things we will always find is frustration, that rage that gives us in certain missions or levels that bother us usually happens constantly in many of them.
That feeling of not wanting to pass that level or simply exterminating that NPC (non-player character) that hinders us because of his terrible intelligence are one of the main causes that cause an enormous frustration, making test our patience and tolerance towards the video game.
There are many moments when our frustration can rise to an uncontrollable level, that is why I will place some of them, remember that this is a personal opinion and can vary depending on each experience, the objective is to feel identified with some of them, but I am sure you will share the same frustration.
Being an escort on a mission
Whenever we are free in a video game we can do whatever we want, that feeling of freedom is simply gratifying, but what happens when from one moment to the next we are limited to protecting an NPC? It's a moment that can turn into hell, not so much because of how we play, but rather because of our partner's poor artificial intelligence.
Sometimes we just don't understand what it does, it can even get stuck walking around the corner of a wall or worse, get into the whole kamikaze style line of fire, obviously when we are shot down we fail at the mission, making us repeat it over and over again.
One of the missions that frustrated me the most was the GoldenEye 007 game, where you have to protect Natalia while entering codes into the computer, she looked like a bullet magnet, she didn't even bother to cover herself, and if she accidentally exploded the computer in front of her, she would die, a mission I wouldn't want to repeat again.
Not being able to jump a scene
When we play for the first time any video game we like to know everything about its history, we will always be attentive to any cinematic that helps us understand everything that happens, however, when we pass the video game and want to squeeze 100% is something that no longer interests us, we want to remove that scene to continue.
It is then that we realize that such a scene can not be skipped, if it lasts more than 10 min is a time that we can not recover. Worse is when there is a guarded point, there comes a scene, then a very difficult boss, kills us and when we load the game we must see the scene again and again, is simply a very frustrating moment that has happened to many of us.
The infinite respawn of enemies
This is something that comes from the old school, there are many games that apply this technique, but sometimes it is very frustrating, didn't it happen that you kill too many enemies and never seem to finish? If the videogame had an enemy counter it would surely be more than 300 at that moment, reaching the point of not understanding what we should do.
The solution, to run like a madman to the other extreme so that the enemies no longer appear, is at that moment when you think of the amount of ammunition, resources and time that you consumed killing the enemies in an infinite way. It reminds me of one of the missions of Call of Duty: World at War where I spent more than 2 hours eliminating enemies, I died over and over again and only had to advance Rambo style to finish the mission.
The nightmare of aquatic levels
The variety of ecosystems within a videogame is always important to me, but this doesn't make water levels one of the most frustrating within videogames. Our character becomes slow, we can't move with the same freedom and the worst thing is that most of the time we have a time limit, if we take too long we die drowned.
That feeling that the controls don't respond as we would like, having to play with extreme caution and watch our character die causes us unlimited frustration, making us repeat the level many times, is something horrible, but necessary in video games.
The aquatic level of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comes to mind where there were some algae that unfairly hurt me, to that I add the fact that the turtle had a time limit to be in the water, undoubtedly one of the levels that I had more frustration with the NES.
Have you ever felt these frustrations? If you have any other you can tell me about your experience through the comments box.
