As some of you know, I have two cats, one is Tchalla, a black cat, and the other is Bucky, a smaller one who is a newcomer to my home.
Well, relatively recently I adopted three little newborn kittens, three little kittens that are now in my care.

Pues bien, hace relativamente poco adopté tres pequeños gatitos recién nacidos, tres chiquititos que ahora están bajo mi cuidado.
You will say "Gabo, but those cats look like newborn kittens, they haven't even opened their eyes" and the truth is that yes, they are kittens that are just a few days old, as of the date I made this post, but it turns out that their mother died a few days after giving birth to them.
Ustedes dirán "Gabo, pero esos gatos parecen gatitos recién nacidos, ni siquiera han abierto los ojos" y la verdad es que sí, son gatitos que apenas tienen unos días de nacidos, a la fecha en que hice este post, pero resulta que su mamá murió a los pocos días de haberlos parido.
You see, not far from my house lives my aunt. She doesn't have cats, but she was frequented by a cat that was pregnant. That kitten was a few days away from giving birth, so she would go to my aunt's house every day to get food and make herself comfortable on some pillows she had placed around her living room.
Well, one day she gave birth to these cute kittens and two days after giving birth, she was found dead in the garage of the house.
The 3 kittens were left alone, without their mother, so she asked me what she could do, since she knew that I always adopted cats and took care of them until I found them a new owner.
Verán, no muy lejos de mi casa vive mi tía. Ella no tiene gatos, pero sí era frecuentada por una gata que estaba preñada. A esa gatita le faltaba pocos días para parir, así que iba todos los días a casa de mi tía a buscar comida y a acomodarse en algunas almohadas que ella le había puesto por su sala.
Pues bien, cierto día parió a estos lindos gatitos y a los dos días de haberlos parido, la encontraron muerta en el garaje de la casa.
Quedaron los 3 gatitos solos, sin su mamá, así que me preguntó a mi qué podría hacer, ya que ella sabía que yo siempre adoptaba gatos y los cuidaba hasta encontrarles un nuevo dueño.
Considering the situation those kittens were in, I didn't want to let them die so I went to their home to pick them up and took them to my little house.
It was not the first time I took care of a small kitten, but never newborn kittens, so I prepared a space for them in my house. In a small drawer I placed a blanket and to keep them warm, I heated water and poured it into a plastic bottle. I let this bottle sit for a while and placed it under the blanket, so that the kittens would feel warm when they lay down next to the bottle.
This actually worked very well, because the kittens were meowing too much from feeling cold, but when I laid them down next to this bottle hidden under the blankets and cuddled them with more pieces of blanket, they were quietly sleeping.
Considerando la situación en la que estaban esos gatitos, no quise dejarlos morir así que fui a su casa a buscarlos y me los llevé a mi casita.
No era la primera vez que atendía a un gatitos pequeños, pero nunca gatitos recién nacidos así que les preparé un espacio para ellos en mi casa. En un pequeño cajoncito coloqué una manta y para darles calor, calenté agua y la vertí en una botella de plástico. Esta botella la dejé reposar un poco y la coloqué debajo de la manta, para que los gatitos sintieran calor al acostarse al lado de la botella.
La verdad esto sirvió muy bien, porque los gatitos maullaban demasiado por sentir frío, pero cuando los acostaba al lado de esta botella oculta debajo de las mantas y los acurrucaba con más trozos de manta, se quedaban en silencio durmiendo.
I had at least solved one small problem, which was keeping them warm. Now I had to face the problem of feeding them.
They had gone a whole day without food so I had to move fast, so I went to a nearby veterinary clinic and asked the doctor what I could feed these kittens.
She recommended two things. The first option, the one I finally took, was to buy a special milk for lactating animals; the second option, which seemed more complicated, was to also give them goat milk, which was much cheaper.
Ya por lo menos había solucionado un pequeño problema, que era el de mantenerlos calientes. Ahora debía enfrentarme al problema de darles comida.
Habían pasado un día entero sin comer así que debía moverme rápido, por eso fui a una clínica veterinaria que queda cerca y le pregunté a la doctora qué podía darle de comer a estos gatitos.
Ella me recomendó dos cosas. La primera opción, la que al final tomé, era comprarle una leche especial para animales en lactancia; la segunda opción, que me pareció más complicada, era darle también leche de chivo, que era mucho más económica.
She sold the special milk at her place, but it cost eight dollars. She herself told me that the goat's milk was sold for two dollars a liter and even gave me the address of the place where it was sold.
As you can see, the goat's milk was cheaper, 6 dollars less than the milk the lady was selling, but when I went to the place she told me, the people who sold it did not have it and that it would arrive in two days, lucky me.
I had to go back and buy the eight dollar milk that she sold in her place, because I could not go another day without the kittens eating.

Como ven, la leche de chivo era más económica, 6 dólares menos que la leche que vendía la señora, pero al ir al lugar que ella me dijo, las personas que la vendían no tenían y que llegaría en dos días, vaya suerte la mía.
Tuve que devolverme y comprar la leche de ocho dólares que ella vendían en su local, pues no podía pasar otro día sin que los gatitos comieran.
Well, when I got home I set about the task of preparing the milk and giving it to the kittens.
It is a powdered milk that comes in a white package. In presentation it is the same as the powdered milk that is given to children, only for small animals.
Bien, al llegar a casa me puse en la tarea de preparar la leche y dársela a los gatitos.

The vet told me that there were special nipples for kittens to eat, but she didn't have any. She recommended using a needle-free injector or a dropper.
Since I had an injector, that's what I tried to use.

La veterinaria me dijo que existían mamilas especiales para que los gatitos comieran, pero que ella no tenía. Me recomendó usar una inyectadora sin aguja o un gotero.

Evidently I had to remove the needle part of the injector, so there was that little hole that the kittens could suck on to drink the milk.
Unfortunately, there was no way any of them could eat with that injector. They all cried and cried and filled their bodies and faces with food. They wouldn't eat, they just cried.
Evidentemente tuve que quitarle a la inyectadora la pieza que tiene la aguja, así quedó ese pequeño orificio que los gatitos podrían chupar para beber la leche.
Lamentablemente, no hubo manera en que ninguno pudiera comer con esa inyectadora. Todos lloraban y lloraban y se llenaban el cuerpo y la carita del alimento. No comían, solo lloraban.
Fortunately, it occurred to me to go to a neighbor to ask if she had a dropper and yes, she had one that she gave me.
I washed it well to remove anything it had, even added hot water and then it was ready to serve as the teat from which these kittens would eat.

I must clarify that it is not easy because they are very restless. They move their paws too much and don't stay calm, so I chose to use another piece of cloth to tuck them in and immobilize their paws.

As you can see, the injector didn't work, but the little dropper did, so if you find yourself in a similar situation, you know what to look for to feed these little creatures.
Como ven, la inyectadora no funcionó, pero el pequeño gotero sí, por eso si llegan a verse en una situación similar, ya saben qué objeto buscar para darle de comer a estas criaturitas.
I know it's more complicated, but you can't let these animals die, so I have to feed them until they grow up and I can find good owners for them.
Tchalla and Bucky don't know that these kittens are at home, so there is no danger of harming them, because I keep them in my room in a small drawer where there is enough ventilation and they are well protected.
As for feeding, I have to feed them every 4 hours and change the hot water bottle, the one I showed you above that I use to warm them up, about 4 times a day.
As I told you, it is a lot of responsibility and a lot of work, but at least they are alive, beautiful and fat.
Sé que es más complicado, pero no se les puede dejar morir a estos animalitos, así que me toca alimentarlos hasta que estén grandes y pueda encontrarles unos buenos dueños.
Tchalla y Bucky no saben que estos gatitos están en casa, así no hay peligro de que les hagan daño, porque los tengo en mi cuarto en un cajoncito donde hay suficiente ventilación y bien protegidos.
En cuanto a la alimentación, debo darles de comer cada 4 horas y cambiarles la botella de agua caliente, la que les mostré arriba y que uso para calentarlos, unas 4 veces al día.
Como les dije, es mucha responsabilidad y mucho trabajo, pero al menos están vivos, bonitos y gorditos.
