Invito a participar a @dayadam y a
@karelysk89.
Paso a paso

It is always a pleasure to come across literary exercises that make us think. Today's exercise (Hispaliterario 17) invites us to write a letter to a real, imaginary or fictional friend. It caught my attention and I decided to participate.
I decided to embed my letter in a short story that is told at the end of the story. It leaves many things to the reader's imagination and more to your interpretation, so read well and try to look for those dark secrets that this letter (and the story itself) hides.
I hope you enjoy this writing which I titled "Letter to Doyle."
"February 17, 2023.
Dear Mr. Doyle.
I am writing to you through this letter with much joy, for I feel the necessity of informing you that today, at last, I am to be allowed to return home. I have been here for many months and I must confess that I am a little afraid to return to the outside world.
I got used to the simple things, such as staying in my room most of the day, taking the same pills at the same time as usual, finding clean clothes every morning and having my room neat and organized, even though I don't lift a finger for any of these tasks.
I got tired, I got tired of being here and together with other friends we encouraged ourselves to leave. We had fears, doubts, insecurities, just like any other sane person. But that didn't stop us, dear Mr. Doyle; every morning we met for breakfast, afternoon snack, lunch, tea time and dinner. I persuaded them to go out too, although they were reluctant to my initiative of freedom.
Unfortunately, you can't force anyone to do anything, so I told them to stay. At first they didn't accept it; they shrieked, cried, cursed, but in the end they stayed here, all in the same place.
As I told you, I am afraid. I don't know what awaits me, but I would like to go back to what I was doing before I was here. It was fun to see the faces of those people, their expressions, the noise they made and sometimes the blows I received. But don't get me wrong, I'm not too attached to things.
Call me crazy, but when someone is already too cold and silent for my liking, I just leave them down there and walk away. Sometimes I find someone else to keep them company, sometimes I don't, but it doesn't matter, it's someone else's problem, not mine.
Months ago, because I was here in this place, I left someone who was still hot and making a lot of noise. I don't know if he's cooled off by now, but I'm going to go visit him, so wish me the best of luck on my first stop.
I inform you, dear Mr. Doyle, that you won't have to come here again, nor cover the expenses of my stay, much less worry about me. I am well and rehabilitated, although, by my reckoning, I never needed rehabilitation. I am well and rehabilitated, although, by my reckoning, I never needed rehabilitation.
I estimate that this letter will reach you in about 2 months, although it may arrive sooner than expected. So if you hear from me before this letter reaches you, don't judge me by what you read in the news, sometimes the press tends to exaggerate the facts more than they should...
I sincerely hope to see you soon and have one of those long conversations we used to have in front of the mirror. I bid you a fond farewell.
Elyod”
And so Elyod finished writing his letter and took it to the mailbox. There he stood for a couple of hours, with an expressionless and empty face. Finally he reacted, just as black smoke began to cover the surroundings.
— Oh, the mail has arrived!" —said Elyod, as he opened the same mailbox, from which he had not detached himself.
With a broad smile he took the letter, opened it and began to read it. The smile remained on his face, while he laughed a few shy laughs.
—Oh, Elyod, you're always so funny, —said Doyle, putting the letter in one of his pockets.
With a clumsy walk, he walked away from the burning building, which had a huge sign that read "Callum Brown Psychiatric Hospital".
Well, I hope you liked my writing. Tell me, did you find anything that caught your attention? Do you think you found some of the secrets of the story? You can write it below in the comments, as always I'll be happy to read them."
I invite @dayadam and
@karelysk89 to participate.
Before finishing, here is the step-by-step drawing of the cover:
Step by step
The first thing I did was to define the workspace
I made sketches of the objects I wanted to capture in the drawing.
After doing the outlining, I started coloring the background, the wooden table, and the card.
I painted both the candle on the table and a bottle of ink and the pen with which the letter in the drawing was written.
I added more lighting and shadows to the objects..
Result:
Thank you very much for taking the time to read my publication. Without further ado, I will say goodbye then...
