I don't know how to work on anything mechanical anymore but I'm happy that you do. There was a time when I was in college and had a car that I had two choices when the car broke: Figure out how to fix it or not drive. I lived in the USA where there was almost zero public transport so I kind of impressed myself with how much I could tinker with something and get it to work eventually. It wasn't always a good fix, but it worked!
