A lot has been documented about animals particularly pets on this blog, and I cannot but say a big thanks to the entire stemsocial@stemsocial community for the support, today however, while you will still be reading about pets, we will be considering a more emotional side to the topic, we will be looking at some of the reasons why our pets behave the way that they do, and this is of course based on published articles, as I do not have the right to say I perfectly understand animal behaviors.

This post is inspired by my neighbor's dog who is aggressive, this dog only identifies its owner, it doesn't want to see any strange person around the house, anytime he sees someone like that, he will begin to bark and try to attack, but there was a new guy who came visiting recently and as though they have seen each other before, this dog was so calm and even allowed the new guy touch him, something we cannot explain, and this is just a good example of such behavior.

Animal behavior has remained a big mystery to humans despite the fact that we have domesticated them for long decades now, sometimes, we just try to imagine how their mind works, and what it is that they really want, and we question their happiness or their sad state and most of the time we are not even sure of the answers we give to ourselves. Like humans, animals have ways of communication, through sounds and through physical acts like wagging of the tail.

Let's start today's discussion by trying to understand why pets prefer some people over others, because sometimes in a family, you may find that, your pet may love to spend time with the (human) father than the mother or the reverse as the case may be. The first reason is understanding, the pet wants to be or stay around someone who understands them properly. The dog may not be able to say, I don't like you touching me there, maybe she will move away to give you a sign, or let out a tiny cry if you don't still get what she is trying to say, chances are that she may not want to stay close to you anymore. It takes a lot of patience for you to sit down and understand the wants and needs of your animals.

Another reason is always trying to bend the animals to do our will, but we must understand that they are companions and sometimes they just want to be by themselves or do something different, constantly enforcing our decision/our will on them may not be so cool, and they will most likely stay away from the member of the family that makes that a habit. The thing about attracting a pet to your corner is that you have to be respectful towards them, show them compassion, and be open-minded towards them. Rather than getting envious of people who appear to be doing well with animals, it may be time to watch your reaction around them and take time to observe their behavior.

The next point I would love to point out today is the means of communication amongst animals, which can easily be described as Pheromones.
Pheromones are chemical signals that have evolved between members of the same species. Most cases of pheromones are detected by the sense of smell, but not all smell's are pheromones. Every mammal including humans gives off a cloud of molecules that represents unique individual smell, the unique difference that individuals have makes it possible for dogs to differentiate between humans, people are quite good at it too, through smell, a mother can differentiate between her children. Pheromones are smells that have evolved as signals and it has remained a mystery since 1991.

How do you think animals show off to people they have a crush on, oh yes, animals have a crush on each other too. Different animals have unique ways of showing off to their crush, sometimes using rhythmic sounds, bright colors, a show of strength, and special sounds, Male animals are known more for their show-off ability than the female, animals do not show off to only get attention, they show off as an honest signal of their quality as well, only healthy males will try to put off a good show for their female counterparts.

Some animals show off their affection for female counters through the display of strength, the competition is not to kill the other males, but a form of display to attract the female gender. Some animals also give gifts to their loved ones, the gift will be in form of food, and insects are usually the best givers of gifts.
