I went out earlier just to buy dinner, but of course I ended up in the small garden near the shop while waiting for my food. I noticed there was a lamp shining quite strongly over the plants, and that was enough reason for me to pull out the camera.

The light from that single lamp became my studio light for the night. It was strong enough to reveal the details of the leaves and flowers, but still soft in some parts, leaving nice shadows around them. Without that lamp the scene would have been too dark, and the photos would be nothing but noisy shadows.

Even so, the image quality isn’t perfect—and I actually like that. When converted to black and white, those little imperfections turn into character. The fine grains and slight noise give the photos a nostalgic feeling, like old film prints that have been kept for years. For BNW, I think a bit of roughness works better than a perfectly clean image.

I enjoyed how the bright petals stood out against the dark background, and how the veins of the leaves quietly appeared under the lamp light. Some flowers look soft and delicate, others already starting to wrinkle and fade, but all of them still beautiful in their own way.

Moments like this remind me that I don’t need a special schedule or perfect conditions to enjoy photography. If there’s light, a subject, and a little bit of time, that’s already enough.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you’re having a peaceful night wherever you are.
