This evening round 10 of the Jupiler Pro League will start. During the midweek Club Brugge and Genk had great results in the Champions League, Gent could have won their Europa League game and Standard just got their ass kicked against the B-team of Arsenal!
Anderlecht had to so something about the bad results to give a sign to their supporters. But in the case of Anderlecht sacking the coach wasn't easy because Davies is a puppet of Kompany. So sacking him would be an assault at Kompany.
Sacking Kompany also wasn't possible.
So, they decided to fire the sportive director Arnesen and did demote Davies to assistant coach.
So a new head coach had to be brought in! Their search did result into appointing Franky Vercauteren as head coach. While Kompany did degree, Kompany have to understand that Vercauteren will act as a real head coach and not as a puppet of Kompany. They reason for appointing Vercauteren was that the staff didn't have enough understanding of the Jupiler Pro League! WTF!!!
This evening they do face the tough away game at Charleroi without Davies as head coach but also not with Vercauteren. It is more or less do or die for Anderlecht already! This will be a very interesting game!
Well I do know that it is maybe too early in the season to speak about relegation but for some teams it is already a fact that they will have to fight against relegation.
Let's assume that Anderlecht won't relegate. This would mean that or Eupen, Waasland-Beveren or Cercle Brugge will relegate. All 3 of them have a tough game on Saturday. Cercle Brugge and Eupen both face an opponent with PO I dreams, Waasland-Beveren will have to play Oostende. This could become a great weekend for Waasland if they manage to keep the 3 points at home against Oostende.
The most important games for the title are on Sunday, starting with the clash between Club Brugge and Gent. Both teams are maybe playing the best football at the moment in the Jupiler Pro League. Both had a midweek away game!
I do favor Club Brugge based on the bad away results from Gent this season.
Also Antwerp and Standard can be considered a clash. There is always something special about this game! The difference between the 2 teams is 3 points, but Antwerp did play a game less.
The round is concluded by Genk vs Mouscron. Mouscron does stand on a place which Genk does want, namely a PO I spot. For Genk it is important to try to extend to good play against Napoli and not again falling back into be uninspired or unmotivated!
Cheers,
Peter
