Happy Sunday hivers.
This weekend I was inspired by @tanjakolader and
@rarej to try my hands at making Saoto, a popular chicken soup in Suriname, Indonesia and maybe some other countries. Have you had it? After seeing several photo of theirs, I started salivating. Haha. I could tell that it was good. I checked YouTube and realized there were several kinds and methods. To be honest, I don’t do well at following the specifics of recipes.
I had no parsley so I used some leafy greens. I forgot to pick up bouillon cubes! How could have I ? Instead, I used cock-flavored chicken noodles. I didn’t have fresh lemongrass so I used some dried ones. I was out of all spice berries so I used powdered all spice. I enjoyed browning the chicken. It was really crispy and delicious. I ended up snacking on quite a bit of it. I should have cut it in strips but ended up breaking it into small pieces. The green onion was thick and sweet. I sautéed it and put it at the bottom of the soup bowls.
With all those little twists and not having eaten an original version of Saoto, I honestly wasn’t sure if the taste was on point or far off. After a while, I just said to myself, ”soup a soup”. 😂😆 That meant , even if the taste is off, it’s still soup. One thing for sure, we (my family) really enjoyed it. I was surprised at how quickly my kids devoured it, considering that it was their first time as well. They even ate the slice of lime. Haha. Thanks @tanjakolader and
@rarej. I appreciate you sharing your recipe. Sorry if I spoiled it.
I’ll certainly try it again. Respect.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend. 😃
