My new approach to autovoting

I've been registered on Hive over 6 years and during those years I've built up my Hive Power. Last week I even reached the Orca status 馃帀
Being a somewhat larger stakeholder does make me feel that I should use my voting power more responsibly.
Of course, manual voting is the best thing to do. And only on the posts that you have actually read. But unfortunately I don't have the time to do that. And I think I'm not the only one that has that problem. I manually upvote posts I read, but for the rest I use autovoting.

For a long time I've followed a couple of curation trails from different curation projects. These projects do valuable work. I know that very well, because I have one myself; topcomment@topcomment. The curators of these projects search for quality content to upvote. By following their voting trail, you just upvote everything they have upvoted.

But.... by doing this you give away control of your upvotes. When checking my voting activities I sometimes noticed posts being upvoted which I wouldn't have upvoted myself.

Inspired by posts from slobberchops@slobberchops and costanza@costanza where they explained how they configured their autovotes, I started thinking how I could implement something like this for myself.

My new approach

I was already using the autovote feature of PeakD, but, as I mentioned earlier, I had a few trails of curation services I followed.
I have removed those trails (except for my own topcomment@topcomment trail) and did a search in my following list for users I wanted to add on the list.

To select users, I've created some guidelines for myself. These are guidelines, so I allow myself to deviate from my own principles sometimes 馃槀

Quality
The account I select need to have a high standard in their content. If an account is mostly postsing game updates or actifit posts, they don't qualify.

Contributors
I prefer to support people who contribute to the community rather than simply take from it.
Although for some people this is controversial, I do check the KE value for this.

Rewards
I generally avoid accounts that already receive big rewards on their posts all the time.
I want my rewards to go to the authors that are not top earners on Hive.

Personal interest
I want to support blogs that genuinely interest me.

For now, these are my rules, but I might adjust these after a while. For me this is just a starting point.

I've started out with selecting accounts and have selected 24 to autovote (25 with topcomment@topcomment)

I had set the value to 50% at first, but I noticed that my voting power was heading towards 90%, so I increased the percentage to 75%.

Keeping my list clean

To keep some control over my autovotes, I have created a separate list in PeakD containing all the accounts I added to my autovote list.
My plan is to scroll through this list regularly to check if there are accounts that no longer meet my guidelines, so I can keep a clean list.
And I won't remove an account when they make one shitpost, but when the it is structural, they will be removed.

Thanks for reading.
How are you spending your HP? Do you delegate a lot? Do you manually upvote posts? And then after you have read them or 'blind'?
Are you following curation trails like I did?
And what do you think about my approach?

Let me know in the comments!
