In these blogs I write about Funny Facts that have something to do with Finance.
Today it’s about the spice that is even more expensive than gold.
The cheapest logo ever
The title of this blog is a bit misleading because there are probably logos created for less, but the reward for the designer compared to the value of the brand definitely makes this logo the cheapest logo ever.
I’m talking about the famous “swoosh” from Nike. The swoosh was designed back in 1971 by Carolyn Davidson. Carolyn created the swoosh when she was still a graphic design student.
She was asked to create a logo for a new line of running shoes and the logo needed to have something to do with movement.
The logo resembles a wing and is a hint at Nike, the Greek goddess of victory.
Nike co-founder Phil Knight wasn’t too enthusiastic about it. He said: "I don't love it, but it will grow on me.". He paid Carolyn $35 for her services.
Carolyn eventually got her share. In 1983 when the company was rather successful Knight gave Carolyn 500 shares estimated to be worth $1,000,000.
