Recently I witnessed a pointed back and forth on a social media site. A friend from years ago had put out a very angry sounding post. The post was filled with their understanding of a topic and lifestyle.
What happened next was exactly what you would expect, other people jumped into the comment section and started to fire back.
The interesting thing about all of this what the fact that each person was speaking from their own understanding. They were also posturing for the upper hand. You can tell this is happening when people use someone's full first name, or words that are uncharacteristically large for them normally.
This particular back and forth had to do with the bible. The poster used versesbto exclaim their point of view. The responders also used the same bible to try to dismantle the poster.
This stuff never works out because it is all about who can convince the other person that they are "right". Even when there is nothing to be right about. It is all from someones current understanding.
These types of back and forth are certainly not limited to bible related conversations. This could be about anything. People love to be right. The drive for validation is like the drive to breathe. Everyone wants to feel like their understanding is the best.
As you head out into the world today I want to encourage you to be patient. The sign of a person that may have a better understanding is that they just don't say anything.
Be well
