If you have been following this build recently, I just finished putting bevels on the newest blade. Today I am moving into the next thing on my list....creating bolsters.
I have never made bolsters before, but I don't shy away from trying new things. I knew this would be a challenge because of my current tool situation though. I have all sorts of new things in this shop, so even though I do not have my go to tool I am still going to create something awesome. My missing tool is a belt sander incase you're wondering haha.
So To get started I measured and cut the four pieces of stainless steel. I chose 303 stainless for these projects as a tip from a knife making mentor of mine. I got the two flat pieces and the two pins cut, cleaned up, and measured to the blade.
It was a little tricky drilling the holes though. I also do not have a drill press, so I am hand drilling the holes. In the end I did end up with a slightly uneven fit, so pay extra attention when you drill.
Over all it turned out pretty amazing. I am really excited about the back angle filing, and the potential that this blade has.
It is coming along quickly, so I am going to start putting out some feelers on buyers! Another one of my favorite parts about making knives....selling them!
