Yesterday, I was electrocuted. It was not what I was expecting when I laid down to go to sleep. After a long and amazing day...I thought I would just drift off into the night. Well, that is not what happened at all.
It was nearly 11 pm and our family was all about to go to sleep. Right before we shut everything off for the night, we do one last door check to make sure that everything is locked up.
I had just laid down into our brand new air mattress (which means we are no longer sleeping on the floor), and I was settling in after a long day. That's when I heard it..... "Hey, this light switch is crackling" We all know that we can't go to sleep after hearing that, what if something bad happens.
I get up and put on some proper pants and meet the rest of the family in the room with the crackly light switch. We are all groggy and wanting to see what is going on. So I pop the cover off of the switch and everything looks good. I start checking the wires and connection. The grounds are good. The commons (white) are good. Then I go to check the hot wires. There are two. Once at the bottom of the switch and one at the bottom. I grab ahold of the switch with my left hand and turn the screw with my right hand....
ZZAAAAPPPPPPPP!!!!
That friggin' switch was busted and it managed to use me as the new switch. That current grabbed my already tired hands and flexed my forearms like I was working out. Fully disclosure it isn't low volts and current that kills people, it is the amps. So this typically wouldn't have long term damage.
We got the breaker to the switch turned off, after we found which of the two breaker boxes it was. While Stacie D was in the front breaker box she also managed to due battle with a Brown Recluse.
When it was all over, and the dust had settled from the house we all made it back to bed. Everyone still alittle jacked about what just happened, and me with my tired and tingly hands. That's why Stacie D whispers "what if everything with the switch was God's way of keeping us safe from that Brown Recluse".... I hope she was right, atleast that would make it worth it hahaha.
Be well.
