Taz in Escape from Mars PORTADA.png

A few weeks ago I did two consecutive reviews of two Taz games, one of those games was for the SNES and the other game for Mega Drive and although the two games had the same name at the end they were totally different games, being the Mega Drive version, which I considered much better and more entertaining, as it was a quite entertaining platform game. I remember saying in the review of the Mega Drive version that there was a Taz game that I had played as a child and I had my doubts if it was that or another one that was similar and it turns out that this other game (which I will talk about today) is that Taz game that I had played in my childhood and today I will tell you a little about that game.

Today's Retro Review is about: Taz in Escape from Mars (Mega Drive).

This game, like most games of this style has a simple but effective story, the story begins when Marvin the Martian is observing his own personal zoo and notices that there is an empty cage, so without hesitation he decides that his next "pet" for his zoo will be Taz himself and without wasting time he embarks on a journey to planet earth, where he captures a totally unsuspecting Taz. Marvin locks Taz in one of the cages, but quickly our protagonist escapes from it and now we must guide him and help Taz to return to his planet. A story, as I said simple, effective but entertaining all thanks to the situations that we will live both with our protagonist and the antagonist of this story and other characters.

Visually and graphically this game presents an improvement with respect to the other game, not so big but at least I could notice an evident graphic change with respect to many elements, especially in Taz and in some elements of the scenery, although you can also see some of the previous game, which for that game were already pretty good. The model of Taz is the same as the first game, but has small details that make it look a little better definition, also, I think that because this game unlike the previous one, although they are of the same genre of platforms, this one being a little more frenetic and with a much faster type of action, the fluidity of movement of Taz is much better than in the first game, although maybe it's just my perception. The scenarios are of the "space" type, so they will have elements of that style, all very technological, but there will also be scenarios that take us to a totally different planet to planet earth, with elements very alien to what can be seen on planet earth (all this taking into account with scenarios that we saw in the previous game). But we will even have Mexican-inspired levels, something I didn't expect at all, with all the stereotypes and clichés so characteristic of the cartoons of a few years ago.

The design of the final bosses are very good, we can fight against many classic characters from the animated series and each of them have very good and very recognizable designs. In the sound aspect is a game that personally stands out quite a lot, many of the melodies are recreations of those that we can hear in several animated series of Warner, which will bring us many nostalgia to hear them, they are very good adaptations and it is a great success to have used some of the melodies, which I am very sure that like me, many had years without hearing them. The sound effects are also very good, they fit perfectly with the mood and style of this game and it is certainly one more character that adds a lot to the identity and personality of the characters and what the animated series represents, this time in a video game.

Taz in Escape from Mars (Mega Drive) is a game that maintains the line in terms of mechanics and gameplay of the previous game, a fairly conventional platform game, but which this time because we can use the whirlwind of Taz for longer, makes it have a much more frantic pace than the previous game, something that can be noticed quite easy to use this ability, which often will make it difficult for us to control Taz. We will have to guide Taz in a series of very well designed scenarios, which we will not only move in a horizontal scroll environment, but also through the use of Taz's whirlpool ability, he will be able to move through some walls and ceilings of the scenarios. We can also find different game modes, as in one where gravity will change, this being something complicated to overcome, since this is a game whose difficulty rises as we go forward. Taz will also be able to eat some objects which he will use as a throwing weapon. At the end of each level we will have to face a final boss, which have their respective attack patterns and ways to defeat them. The game has a lot of different levels, and you'll have the classic items to recover your life or those that give you extra lives. In short, it's an excellent game and it's much better than I remembered.
