Surprisingly, I met this game about 5 months ago and when I played it I was surprised by the kind of gameplay it has, since the battle mode that has this game is in real time and being developed by Squaresoft I expected a modality by turns, but despite that it is a game that is very well done and is quite fun.
And well, without further extending the introduction let's begin with the retro review of: Secret Of Mana.
Our main protagonist is Randi and his story begins after he falls by a waterfall, after his fall when he was lying on the ground begin to hear a voice that emanates from a certain place, this voice comes from the same sword that he then extracts from the place where he was, Randy follows the voice until he finds a sword embedded in a rock,
surprisingly this mysterious voice comes from the same sword that later he himself extracts from the place where he was, (very similar to Link of the Saga The Legend of Zelda), but then we found out that doing that was not a good idea after all.
It turns out that this sword, is the sacred Sword of the Mana whose function was to keep sealed the demons and all kinds of evil that inhabited formerly, after this error Randi is exiled from the town where he lived, but assigning him the mission of recovering the power of the sword so that it would put the seal back and finish once and for all with the evil that had spread, for this he must find the Seeds of Mana that are found in specific sites of the world of Secret of Mana.
During our search we will meet our two companions, each with a different mission but at the same time with a common goal, we have Purim a blonde girl who seeks her boyfriend who was kidnapped by a witch
and a dwarf whose memories lost that is named Popoie. Although the story is quite typical, a group of comrades who must unite to save the world from evil, what I liked about this game was that the reason why the evil spreads again is "because" of the protagonist.
Graphically it is pretty, it is very common in these types of games and especially of the developer of Secret of Mana that always stand out in its graphic section, a game with a great variety of colors striking and pleasing to the eye.
In the scenarios the detail is abundant, the color tonality is adequate and these were correctly developed for the story and the magical world of the game.
The amount of enemy types that has Secret of Mana is great, you can find different designs as we move around the world and because of their large amount is not so noticeable when some of them are repeated in the scenarios. Like the common enemies, the final bosses is the aspects that I liked most of this game, these have a style according to the fantasy world that represents the game, in addition to having well thought out designs.
As is customary in the main characters is where you notice more the commitment to the moment that develops of a video game and in this obviously could not miss, with a sprites design with quite colorful and an excellent drawing, is of the games that I visually like more in terms of character design.
At this point it is not at all uncommon to say that the music is excellent, anyone who has played some Final Fantasy or some other game developed by Squaresoft knows what I mean, something that Squaresoft knew how to do is compose the music they would use in their games. music is always important in this type of games, because it should help the player to immerse himself in the world and scenarios of the game itself.
Video Author
I discovered Secret of Mana thanks to a video of Youtube, but in that video did not deepen anything about the game, only was named in a list of better games rpg, and although it is quite famous I had no knowledge of this game until I saw that video, so I downloaded it and when I started playing I was expecting a game of turn battles, but I was surprised to see that the gameplay is real-time battles.
As I said earlier battles are in real time, that is to say, that we have control of our characters when attacking the enemies, in simple terms has some resemblance to Zelda, so we must be aware of the pattern of attack of our enemies, the range of their attacks but likewise that of our characters also, because we have attacks that do not have the same scope as others and will require approaching the enemy to take effect.
In addition to having a great variety of weapons to use which we can improve through special items that we will get as we go.
Secret of Mana is a pretty recommendable game, if you are fan of the final fantasy or any other rpg game of this style despite its modality of play is not by turns, does not have a very high difficulty but not easy, has the right balance so as not to frustrate you while playing, with a catchy soundtrack and graphically excellent. No doubt a great game that unfortunately I did not play during my childhood, but if I was an adult.
