It is no surprise to find a game that has never left Japan, there are still many that to this day are unknown to the public in other countries, others although a little better known are still hidden in the shadow of others, but fortunately as the years pass many of these hidden gems are translated into several languages so that it can reach a wider audience and therefore be able to play those gems that not many people know. Today's review is about one of those games that never officially left Japan, but thanks to a group of fans is a game that has been translated in its entirety into English, you can even play it in Spanish, although I personally played it in English and it is quite well translated. A game inspired by the saga The Legend of Zelda, but especially in A Link to the Past and it is something that can be seen at a glance, also its creator never hid that he took inspiration from that game.
So without further ado, today's Retro Review is about: Marvelous: Another Treasure Island.
Marvelous: Another Treasure Island or originally known as Marvelous: Mouhitotsu no Takarajima is a 100% adventure game, which tells a very funny story where years ago when piracy was common, the most famous of them, Monkey D. Luffy, i.e. Captain Maverick had left hidden a great treasure, which is named "Marvelous". However, several years have passed since then and they still have not found this treasure, which brings with it many mysteries because those who have dared to look for the "Marvelous" have never returned home alive, making it a very dangerous treasure to obtain.
However, a group of three children: Dion, Max and Jack will embark on an unparalleled adventure where they will try to find the treasure most desired by pirates and fortune hunters. Marvelous: Another Treasure Island is a beautiful game, which as I mentioned before maintains the aspect of Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, it is as if its creator had used the asets of that game to create Marvelous: Another Treasure Island, as they look very similar and as I also mentioned, its creator never hid his inspiration for the Zelda game, he wanted to make a Zelda game or at least work in the development of one that later he could work in the development of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time (which is one of the best games in history).
This game looks visually specular, with character design quite friendly and very colorful, in addition to its already obvious and visually striking color palette, which in addition to being also very varied, the character design is very good, with very well designed characters, both at the level of sprites, However, what stands out most in terms of the graphic aspect is in the design of scenarios, as I personally consider that it is the best of this game, it stands out a lot on screen, due to its great attention and level in the details that we will find along the vast majority of these scenarios. They are very varied and full of life, with very good decorative elements that few games manage to recreate with such dedication. Marvelous: Another Treasure Island is a game with a pretty good soundtrack and a game with this aspect is no surprise that its soundtrack is up to par, although it does not sound throughout the adventure, this game also features some ambient melodies that fit very well with the calm moments of this game (which at least at the beginning are many. As well as its sound effects are not spectacular, but they manage to effectively fulfill their purpose.
Marvelous: Another Treasure Island is a game that although visually looks like a "copy" of A Link to the Past could not be more different from its inspiration, because unlike Zelda, which is an Action RPG and adventure, Marvelous: Another Treasure Island is much more focused on exploration, adventure and puzzle solving, it has its moments of combat, but it's more moments of exploration and puzzle solving than that and that's not why it's a boring game, quite the opposite, this is a game where there will be a lot of dialogue, we must talk to NCPS to give us information about certain things you need to advance in the story. We will have at our disposal three playable characters, which will have their own characteristics, mechanics and game skills, so in order to solve a puzzle we must use the right character for the situation.
As the characters are very different from each other, having some different stats such as greater strength or speed, we must quickly know which is the right character to help us solve the mystery we have at that time. There is a lot of exploration and that is something that I like a lot, besides its control over them is quite simple, we can even assign the group leader we want and as it is more convenient for the situation, its difficulty is very well adjusted so it will not make us frustrated if some puzzle fills to become very difficult, it has a very tight and successful difficulty curve, in this way makes it a fairly entertaining game and that will give us a few hours of fun.
