Some years ago the genre Survival Horror was very fashionable, games like Silent Hill or Resident Evil were very popular in their time and served as inspiration for other games that would come out later, many of them, as you can suppose, were not very good and other so many very pathetic, but some other titles were excellent and very good games of this genre of terror, but of course, most of these titles were overshadowed by the games I mentioned earlier. These titles currently have in renown "hidden jewels" and the truth is a name that fits them very well, as they are excellent games but they are under the shadow of others. One of those games of the Survival Horror genre that everyone should know about is the one I'm going to talk about next. And by the way I dedicate this post to @ahmadmanga, because a few months ago made me remember this game in one of my post, sorry it took me so long to do the review haha.
Today's Retro Review is about: Martian Gothic: Unification.
A curious detail that I realized at the time of writing this review, is that the date of the events of the game fits with the current date (I did not intentionally, I swear).
In Martian Gothic: Unification we are located on June 17, 2019 and tells us the terrifying adventures of 3 astronauts who were sent to Mars, since the base that is there, which has the name Vita 1, has stopped sending signal and communicating with the outside. That is why they send: Diane Matlock, Kenzo Uji, and Martin Karne, these three astronauts, who specialize in different abilities will be in charge of solving the mysteries that lie behind the base Vita 1, but at the moment of arriving at the red planet, the group is separated product of a sand storm, therefore each one of these astronauts will have to go by its own way and separately to gather the necessary clues to solve this mystery. In this voyage, our main characters will live moments of anguish, suspense and total terror.
In terms of the graphic aspect I must say that it does not look so bad, it has been quite a few years since the release of this game, but I think that even today has not aged as badly as other games, clearly the graphic quality is quite inferior, but this is one of those games that, because of its good atmosphere (in this case we are in space), the developers were able to recreate very well the entire space and space based environment.
Although the comparison sounds bad, you could say that this is a Resident Evil in space, and is that in terms of graphic quality are very similar. The scenarios of this game are very well recreated and with good details to observe, the places where we can go are very varied, although most of the game we are within the space base, but despite that, the rooms and general scenarios of Martian Gothic: Unification, were made in such a way that it gives the feeling that if we are on a spatial base, but above all, if it gives the feeling of terror, since the details that in this base something very bad happened, are very well represented by each of the details that decorate the stages.
With respect to the design of the characters and the enemies are quite simple, the characters despite being the main ones, have quite basic designs and did not stand out much, and this happens the same with the enemies, because in the same way, their designs are very generic and if we could compare the zombies in Resident Evil with those of this game, there would be no significant differences. However, the game compensates this with a good atmosphere of terror and suspense.
I don't have much to say about this aspect, because the sonorous aspect of Martian Gothic: Unification is normal, that is to say, it doesn't have representative melodies or anything spectacular, since they are quite normal and in general they serve to create a good atmosphere together with the stage. And as for the sound effects, it's more of the same, they're fine, but they're not spectacular at all, in a nutshell, the sound aspect of this game doesn't stand out at all, but it does fulfill its purpose, which is to accompany the player on the "adventure".

Martian Gothic: Unification is a game that maintains many of the main features of a Survival Horror, such as the terrifying atmosphere, music and character control, but unlike other games of the same genre, in Martian Gothic Unification we can have control of 3 different characters.
Our mission is to reveal what happened in the space base and when we enter it we find a total massacre, because the people who were working there were cruelly killed, but not only that, but they were also infected by a virus that makes them become a kind of zombie (spatial), therefore taking into account the main characteristics of the genre Survival Horror, we must have a good use and administration of all the elements that the game makes available to us, such as weapons and their respective ammunition, since a misuse of ammunition will make it more difficult for us to overcome a certain obstacle in the future, therefore a good administration of our resources is the key to survival.
As I said in principle our three main characters separate when starting the game, but to continue with the game is necessary that they help each other, that's why through the use of air ducts that are found throughout the base, will serve as a channel of communication between astronauts and through the use of these ducts we will be able to send certain objects that will help us overcome or complete a certain mission. For everything else, it remains the same as other Survival Horror, however, because of its setting and location (a space base on Mars) makes this game quite good argumentally.
Martian Gothic: Unification is a hidden gem of videogame, perhaps not the most original title we can find in the industry, but if it is one of those games that despite taking certain aspects of other games, knows how to maintain its own personality and essence.
