A few days ago I reviewed a game for SNES called Legend and today I bring again a review of a game that has the same name, but this time is a 3D game made for the first PlayStation and this Legend is the remake of that old game for SNES, which maintains certain features with the old game, but in itself could be considered a totally new game, so without further delay:
Today's Retro Review about: Legend (PlayStation 1).
The story of this game takes us to the kingdom of Tovakia and focuses on the rivalry of two brothers, which one of them is the king of the kingdom and the other brother because a criminal has been exiled, so you want to take revenge on his brother the king, to achieve that becomes a powerful and evil sorcerer, However, despite having obtained great power still can not face his brother the king alone with that and that is why he makes an alliance with a character named Morlock the Soulthief, which will give him an army of demons to fight his brother and all the knights of the kingdom. So after having made this alliance, they decide to attack the kingdom of Tovakia, thus managing to kidnap the king before the eyes of his three most loyal knights: Alex, Karo and Tara. Therefore, the mission of our protagonists is to save our king and destroy these two villains.
Graphically it is what you can expect from 90% of PlayStation 1 games, which is polygons everywhere, this being a fairly common feature in the games of that era, however I do not consider this to be a negative aspect at all, as this is a game that looks pretty good, with good details in the design of the characters that makes them stand out very well on screen, plus the textures of both the characters and the textures of the scenarios despite not being anything spectacular, they manage to look pretty good on screen.
One of the aspects that stands out in this section and much difference are the animations of the characters, these are very varied and with a really good level of fluidity, something that really did not expect it to be so good, also, our characters, which we can choose between 3 playable characters, present their own movements and designs, which makes this game earn even more points in the graphical section. The enemies unlike the old game, have more varied designs and many better made, this being an aspect to consider because not all remakes get to be as good or surpass the original game, but in this case, I think Legend for PlayStation 1 is quite superior to what was seen in the SNES game.
The sound is much better than in the original game, because as I said in the previous review, although the main theme of that game is really good, they repeat it so much throughout the adventure that it gets quite boring to listen to it again, but in this remake there is more variety of melodies, although without being anything spectacular, they manage to accompany very well both in moments of action and in a way to create atmosphere in the different scenarios that we will see. As well as the sound effects are quite new and varied, especially the sound of clashes of swords or the screams that make our characters to attack or the sound that makes the enemies to receive an attack or be eliminated, contributes much to a better immersion of the game.
Legend for PlayStation 1 despite being made in 3D unlike its predecessor which was made in 2D, still maintains the basic features seen in the old game, that is, a game of the beat'em up genre, where we move in a side scrolling environment where we must defeat a number of enemies to advance to the next part of the stage, do that several times until we can fight the classic final boss of each stage. The characters are controlled quite well and the gameplay in terms of learning the controls is extremely easy, like any game of the beat'em up genre. In certain parts where we will find sections of "bonus stage" where the gameplay changes to be now a FPS where we will control a crossbow whose purpose will be to eliminate as many enemies in the shortest time.
This game has three playable characters, which as a good beat'em up game have the classic and cliché characteristics of the games of this style, that is, each character has his way of fighting and some are better than others in certain aspects, for example: Alex the classic balanced character, which is able to use any weapon. Tara being the woman of the group, fulfills the classic role of being the fastest of all and therefore good with light weapons, however, is the least resistant of the three characters and is much weaker, a classic. While Karo is the classic character that takes a lot of damage, but is slow, besides being the one that can best use heavy weapons. The characters can also use magic, so in addition to weapons, this game has a good variety of ways to eliminate enemies.
Legend for PlayStation 1 is a really entertaining game, I liked it much more than its older version for SNES, which is still quite good, but this version for PS1 not only improved graphically, which in many occasions is irrelevant but in this occasion was important, but also improved its gameplay, which is now much more fun.
Hace unos días hice la review de un juego para SNES llamado Legend y el día de hoy traigo nuevamente una review de un juego que tiene el mismo nombre, pero esta vez es un juego en 3D hecho para la primera PlayStation y es que este Legend el remake de ese antiguo juego para SNES, el cual mantiene ciertas características con el antiguo juego, pero en si se podría considerar que es un juego totalmente nuevo, por lo que si más dilación:

La historia de este juego nos transporta al reino de Tovakia y se centra en la rivalidad de dos hermanos, el cual uno de ellos es el rey de dicho reino y el otro hermano debido a que un criminal ha sido exiliado, por lo que desea tomar venganza hacia su hermano el rey, para poder lograr eso se convierte un poderoso y malvado hechicero, sin embargo a pesar de haber obtenido gran poder aún no se puede enfrentar a su hermano el rey solo con eso y es por eso que hace una alianza con un personaje llamado Morlock the Soulthief, el cual le dará un ejército de demonios para poder combatir a su hermano y a todos los caballeros del reino. Por lo que luego de haber realizado esa alianza deciden atacar al reino de Tovakia, logrando así secuestrar al rey ante la mirada de sus tres más leales caballeros: Alex, Karo y Tara. Por lo tanto, la misión de nuestros protagonistas es salvar a nuestro rey y destruir por a estos dos villanos.
Gráficamente es lo que se puede esperar del 90% de los juegos de PlayStation 1, lo cual es polígonos por doquier, siendo esta una característica bastante común en los juegos de esa época, sin embargo esto no lo considero para nada que sea un aspecto negativo, ya que este es un juego que se ve bastante bien, con buenos detalles en el diseño de los personajes que hace que destaquen muy bien en pantalla, además de que las texturas tanto de los personajes como las texturas de los escenarios a pesar de no ser nada espectacular, logran verse bastante bien en pantalla.
Unos de los aspectos que más destaca en este apartado y mucho diferencia son las animaciones de los personajes, estas son muy variadas y con un nivel de fluidez realmente bueno, algo que realmente no esperaba que fuese así de bien, además también, nuestros personajes, los cuales podremos elegir entre 3 personajes jugables, presenten sus propios movimientos y diseños, lo que hace que este juego gane aún más puntos en el apartado gráfico. Los enemigos a diferencia del juego antiguo, presentan diseños más variados y muchos mejor hechos, siendo este un aspecto a considerar ya que no todos los remake llegan a ser tan buenos o superar al juego original, pero en este caso, considero que Legend para PlayStation 1 supera bastante a lo visto en el juego de SNES.
El apartado sonoro es mucho mejor que en el del juego original, ya que como había dicho en la anterior review a pesar de que el tema principal de ese juego es realmente bueno, lo llegan a repetir tanto durante toda esa aventura que llega a aburrir bastante escucharlo nuevamente, pero en este remake hay más variedad de melodías, aunque sin ser nada espectacular, logran acompañar muy bien tanto en los momentos de acción y de cierta forma para crear ambiente en los distintos escenarios que veremos. Así como también los efectos de sonido son bastante nuevos y variados, especialmente el sonido de choques de espadas o los gritos que hacen nuestros personajes a atacar o el sonido que hace los enemigos al recibir un ataque o ser eliminado, aporta bastante a una mejor inmersión de juego.
Legend para PlayStation 1 a pesar de ser hecho en 3D a diferencia de su antecesor que estaba hecho en 2D, aun así mantiene las características básicas vistas en el juego antiguo, es decir, un juego del genero beat'em up, donde nos movemos en un entorno de scroll lateral donde debemos derrotar a una cantidad de enemigos para poder avanzar hacia la siguiente parte del escenario, hacer eso varias veces hasta poder luchar contra el clásico jefe final de cada etapa. Los personajes se controlan bastante bien y su jugabilidad en términos de aprendizaje de los controles en sumamente fácil, como cualquier juego del genero beat'em up. En ciertas partes donde encontraremos secciones de “bonus stage” donde la modalidad de juego cambia al ser ahora un FPS donde controlaremos una ballesta cuyo propósito será eliminar a la mayor cantidad de enemigos en el menor tiempo.
Este juego cuenta con tres personajes jugables, los cuales como buen juego del beat'em up presentan las ya clásicas y cliches características de los juegos de este estilo, es decir, cada personaje tiene su forma de luchar y algunos son mejores que otros en ciertos aspectos, por ejemplo: Alex el clásico personaje equilibrado, el cual es capaz de usar cualquier arma. Tara al ser la mujer del grupo, cumple con el clásico rol de ser la más veloz de todos y por ende buena con armas ligeras, sin embargo, es la que menos resistencia de los tres personajes tiene y es mucho más débil, un clásico. Mientras que Karo es el clásico personaje que aguanta mucho daño, pero es lento, además de ser el que mejor puede usar armas pesadas. Los personajes también puede usar magia, por lo que además de las armas, este juego cuenta con una buena variedad de formas de poder eliminar a enemigos.
Legend para PlayStation 1 es realmente un juego entretenido, me gustó mucho más que su version más antigua para SNES, la cual no deja de ser bastante buena igualmente, pero esta version para PS1 supo no solo mejorar gráficamente, lo cual en muchas ocasiones es algo irrelevante pero en esta ocasión fue importante, sino que también mejoro en su jugabilidad, la cual ahora es mucho más divertida.
