Incantation PORTADA.png

I have been more motivated to return to write reviews about video games and this time I bring you another of those retro games that are quite unknown, a fairly classic platform and action game in which we control a magician in a series of scenarios full of enemies to defeat. This game that despite not having anything special, because it becomes somewhat repetitive is one of those games which you can complete in a couple of hours or less and can give you enough entertainment during that time, so despite its simplicity it is worth playing and knowing it.

That's why today's Retro Review is about: Incantation.

The story of this game is extremely simple, just as simple is its gameplay and game mechanics. The story is so simple that it is too irrelevant, in fact I found out what the story was about when I finished the game, because I honestly did not pay attention to it when I played, but in short terms, the story of Incantation is about a little wizard whose mission is to defeat an evil witch and to do so, he must venture into a series of scenarios full of enemies to defeat and as we advance we can learn new types of magic that will be very useful for each battle and especially for the final battle.

The story is as simple as that and really for a game as generic and typical as Incantation is, you don't need a story too deep and with crazy plot twists, that's enough. What stands out the most and by far is its graphic aspect, since it has a colorful and colorful color palette, resembling cartoons, in addition, our protagonist has a very characteristic design, chibi style, but that manages to stand out on screen, which makes it look quite childish and friendly. The scenarios are very varied and really have quite a lot of details, something that surprised me quite a bit because I honestly didn't expect it to look so good. We will go to places from forests, swamps, caves, mountains, there are many places to which our protagonist can go and as I mentioned before they present excellent details in the background of them, as well as in the foreground of them. The scenery design is quite typical for a platform and action game, so we will not find something extremely spectacular, but the elements it has are very well implemented, this being its best aspect.

Although visually it is a game that I quite like, I must also say that several of the decorative elements that we will see throughout this adventure will be repeated several times in other scenarios, just changing the color or in some places are exactly the same, something that ultimately subtracts some score in this aspect, although I still maintain my opinion that the graphical aspect of this game is the best it has by far. The enemies are not bad either, as there is a great variety of them and they are found in the places corresponding to the type of scenarios in which we are, being the final bosses the ones that logically stand out above the designs of normal enemies, a fairly typical feature in video games. In terms of music, despite not standing out much, the music it has is adequate for a game of this style, as it not only fits very well with the theme of the game, but also with its appearance and art, which is something very important for the setting of scenarios. Although undoubtedly its sound aspect is the least remarkable of this game, even below its story, since the story is so simple that it is not even necessary to tell it, but the soundtrack, being so presented should at least be at least memorable, even if it is a melody in this way we can associate it directly in with the game, but after finishing playing Incantation I really do not remember any of them, although I repeat, I do not think its soundtrack is at all, but it is not memorable.

I think Incantation can be considered a game of the run'n gun genre, because basically that is the main mechanic that this game presents, along with the elements of platforming and action which are also quite present in the same way. Our main character is able to jump, run and cast spells, and the way in which all these mechanics are developed is practically the same as the ones seen in run'n gun games. We will be defeating enemies throughout the scenarios and at the end of each stage we will have to face a final boss, with its mechanics and characteristic movements, which is not so difficult to eliminate, since in itself, this is not a game that has a high difficulty at all, but it does not make it boring, as I consider that it has a type the right difficulty to be entertaining (although at certain times it can become a bit repetitive), Due to the aforementioned, Incantation also presents quite simple mechanics and controls, too simple in fact, which makes the learning of the aforementioned practically intuitive and does not present any problem. We will find the classic items that will restore our life points and also those that will grant us spells that we can use against our enemies. Incantation is not a marvel of a video game, it is simple, cliché and even a little repetitive in some aspects, but it is still a game that with what it offers can entertain us for a while.
