Heavy Die Clashing on a 1966 Lincoln Cent
Die clashes occur when both hammer and anvil dies (containing the design for the 'heads' and 'tails' of the coin) hit each other with no coin blank (planchet) present. The result can be dramatic, as in

Cuds are formed from dies that have a piece break off on the edge. This leaves an area that contains no design (obviously, haven fallen away), and subsequent planchets (coin blanks) struck by that die

HEAVY Multiple Event Clashing - 1989 Lincoln Cent
Where parts of the obverse get transferred to the reverse die, and vice versa. Caused by no planchet (blank) present in the striking chamber.
