I was raised as a catholic and went to church regularly until I graduated high school. I believe all religion is trying to teach us the same things. How to be a “good” person. How to treat one another. The stories and literature found in the books are just examples. I don’t believe they are meant to be taken literally. Each story found in the bible has a message they are trying to get across. Sometimes among many stories they may be trying to re-emphasize the same message. It is very possible that someone or some group decided to create the stories as a guideline of how to act towards each other. For me, it is not so important if there really was a Jesus Christ that walked on Earth who did all these divine acts. The life he lived in the books is an example of how for me to act. As they say, follow in Jesus’ footsteps. That is what is important to remember. You don’t need to be Jesus, but try to follow the path he laid out for us. Adopt his principles and morals.
As simply as I can put it, religions are basically summarizing this quote: “Treat OTHERS the way YOU want to be treated.” In order for this to work you need to be honest with yourself about how you would want to be treated. Also, you must aim to be patient, understanding of other’s perspectives and peaceful. Life is a beautiful thing. We as the human race have been on this Earth for too long to still consider ourselves different just because of where we were born on this Earth. It is okay to identify yourself as being born in a certain region, but we are one big team. We are all born on the Earth. We should all respect each other and understand the importance of working together. Just like any successful business or sports team, the key is TEAMWORK. That’s what I strive for every day. To help my fellow man and woman. Improve my environment so that the world I live in is better for everyone. Do your part, get to know the people around you and help those in need. Adopt the lifestyle of the idols we read about in our religious books.
