Hello, community! After sharing the beauty of the Cuban Trogon with you, today I want to talk about the other extreme of Cuban nature: a tiny flying jewel that is completely unique to our planet.

This is the Bee Hummingbird (known locally in Cuba as "Zunzuncito"), whose scientific name is Mellisuga helenae

Here are some incredible facts about this marvel of Cuba:

📏 The smallest bird in the world: It measures only about 6 centimeters (2.4 inches) long and weighs less than a single coin. It is so tiny that it is sometimes mistaken for a large bee!

✨ A flying jewel: The males have an iridescent blue head and a brilliant red throat. When the sunlight hits them, they look like actual flying jewels

💨 Extreme speed: Their wings beat so incredibly fast (about 80 times per second) that they emit a buzzing sound. That is exactly why they are called "Zunzuncito" (little buzz).

🌿 An endemic treasure: This little bird lives only in Cuba, especially in the Ciénaga de Zapata and some tropical forest areas

It is a beautiful reminder that our island doesn't just have vast landscapes, but also tiny creatures that are unique in the entire universe. Protecting our forests is the only way this little giant can keep flying

Have you ever been lucky enough to see a hummingbird? Tell me in the comments! 👇
