The image that I bring you today reflects a very common scene in the coastal areas of my dear Venezuela. In the late afternoon many fishermen return from their daily work, with the fruit of their work. The profession of fisherman is very difficult, requires not only physical strength, but also patience and courage. Day after day, they must leave their homes at dawn, to go to sea, for hours and hours, in search of the long-awaited fish that will become the livelihoods of their families. On several occasions I have commented that I was born in a beautiful city on the shores of the Caribbean Sea, called Carúpano and of course, one of the economic activities is fishing.
I met this lifestyle firsthand, since, the father of my best friend from childhood and adolescence, was a fisherman. He always told me about his experiences, when in his spare time, he accompanied his father to fishing. I remember, describing me with great passion, how they were oriented using the position of the stars, since they went out to sea, when the sun had not yet begun its ascent over the horizon. As you can see in the picture, in most cases, they are very small boats, because it is artisanal fishing. So, in addition, it is quite a feat to sail in the offshore, with so little protection. There were many occasions, in which he told me, how difficult the day had been, due to the strong waves, because of the bad weather. But regardless of the dangers they must face, due to nature's hazards or the risk of encountering modern pirates, that they can be assaulted and even threaten their lives. This, the love for the sea, the passion for their trade and their families, that drives them every day to go out to face the immensity of the sea, with all the dangers and unfathomable mysteries it houses.
