Esperanza consumes all the battery of her phone while she waits distractedly for the subway unit that will take her back home, she doesn't know it but destiny and its wiles are conspiring again. That day nothing has gone well for her, she is terrified by a madman who has boarded the Tokyo subway and killed everyone who crossed him.
But those things don't happen in Venezuela, here they would steal your cell phone without realizing it or kidnap you to take your shoes, but a madman disguised as the Joker? that would never happen! At least that's what she wants to think as she stares at one of those political ads that flood the streets of Caracas.
Promises of change, that and a bunch of lies offered by politicians of all stripes, it doesn't matter, Esperanza just wants to get to her station and hopefully get there early. As she looks around inside the unit, she stops at a guy who is reading a book as if there was nothing better to do and pays attention to his details.
That man had red hair and a red cap that accentuated even more the color of his hair, when she looks down she notices that he was wearing a skateboard between his legs and when she raises her eyes again to the height of the boy's, she realizes that he was looking at her insistently.
On the other side of the booth was Diego, he has had a good day better than the average day he usually has. Today he has brought a book with him so as not to take out his phone, he has been a victim of the underworld on countless occasions, however he has taken the time to read something by Isabel Allende.
While he is distracted his skateboard falls to the ground and makes a noise that scares the lady standing in front of him. The lady looks at him with contempt and turns her head in the most jocular way she can, she grumbles something that Diego can't hear but no matter what, he sinks back into his reading.
Before he goes back to reading Allende, he realizes that someone is looking at him but he doesn't know who it is. When you live in a city as dangerous as any other city in Latin America, any look can be suspicious, but he immediately realizes that the person looking at him is a very pretty woman with a very peculiar way of dressing.
He pretends not to have seen her, but after a few moments he smiles and winks at her mischievously, the woman has smiled at him and he understands that it is time to get up to the conquest, but he has to be careful because in Caracas even the women are careful.
This is how destiny works or the decisions we make to meet people or get into new situations. Some call it destiny, others call it chance, but Esperanza and Diego will call it love at first sight and who are we to contradict them?
