Music and Art #2

Following the pace from the last time I painted, written in a previous post, I decided to get into the groove of Marilyn Manson.

Who doesn't like the infamous Antichrist? I don't really care what he is known for, I like his music. Not all of them of course although I do have quite a few favorites.

Time to blast some music and slap on some paint!

I put MM on shuffle on Spotify and I fell upon a wonderful new song... Well, knew to me! His take on a Johnny Cash song is pretty damn sweet, have you heard God's Gonna Cut You Down? No? You should.

I really can't seem to get over doing grey backgrounds. Perhaps it reflects something in my life (most likely). So that is what I started with, white and black paint on the paint brush and painted away without mixing it prior to applying.

When I started getting some black blobs of paint into the white on the paint tray, it gave me a pretty neat idea of what to do and it matched exactly the feels of the songs I was listening to. I will explain as I go. I swirled the blob on the tray, just playing with it and it looked like a rose, so I tried doing that same thing on the canvas.

I then did the same with red and black and even orange and black.

Ya, that didn't go as planned, not one bit. Erase. Wait, erase paint off a canvas? Ya totally, just wipe it off since it's still wet.

Although it left a stain and I was hoping I could cover it up. First MM track was done already, and the next one played ; Running To The Edge Of The World, another new one for me, gave me the feels to continue with making a rose. But it feels painful, sad, hurt and really something I have been feeling for a long time. Time to dig into that.

This song, the way Manson sings it, the lyrics , everything feels like I need to empty my emotions on this canvas, only problem is its a tiny canvas. When we spill our feelings when we have been hurt deeply, it's like spilling my blood, reopening cuts and so that is what I did, I put my blood (not literally) on the canvas.

Towards the end of the song, the lyrics says we don't seek death, we seek destruction. Those words are the epitome of everything, so the blood goes nicely with the music.

Time to draw out the rose with black paint and fill it in with white. I tried to fill it in thick so that it would give a 3 dimensional look to the painting, that didn't really work. It just flattened when it dried. Booo.

I added the shading into the rose as I applied the white paint thinking it was wise to do it while the paint was still wet. Using Acrylics has it's advantages for quick drying but is also a disadvantage.

Cue in another song from the big Mason guy; Fated, Faithful, Fatal.

This guy is really good at making the right songs.

Almost done, adding some red to the flower before the white paint dries as well as the shading to it.

I had to fix up the red on that one petal, looks like crap lol. Then I painted the remaining petal and added the last detail by spraying more blood on the canvas.

Now that I see it up close on this post I realize there is something that I forgot to do. I made a mental note to thicken the black lines of the rose. I guess I got too carried away with want to add more bloooooood.

After cleaning my brushes off, I set this one out to properly dry, right beside the previous one I painted.
