Some cities are famous for their ancient monuments, some other for their architecture innovations, others for their massive population and some others for their thriving industry.
Litochoro goes into the category none of the above! Its advantages comes almost exclusively from its location. I have made a first presentation of this small Greek town in this post but I want to elaborate a little more on that!

As it is built at the foothills of mount Olympos, the highest mountain of the country (you can see a tiny part of it in the picture above), it is the gate to enter an amazing ecosystem and within the town limits and the area around, you can take a pretty good taste of what you can expect if you start exploring the mountain. What I share here today is just from some walks at the parks and some short routes attached to the town, as well as a view point just a few minutes away with the car.

And yet if it wasn't for the paved paths and the benches every now and then, I could have never guessed that I am not in a forest! The scenery consisted of centenarian trees, abundant water and off-grid peacefulness! It was so unfortunate that I didn't had the time to go any further although now that I am thinking of it I couldn't have gone much further since the mountain was covered with snow :)

In any case the mount Olympos is calling me for a thorough visit and I should answer to the call. If you have read a little about ancient Greece you probably recognize the name. It is the place where all the ancient Gods were living. So it's not something to be taken lightly :)
