The old harbor of Chania is probably the most recognizable landmark of Crete, a place that concentrates a large part of the island's history. Here you don't only feel, but you can also see the mixture of civilizations that has happened over the centuries.
The harbor was built by the Venetians, the lighthouse was restored by the Egyptians, the mosque was made by the Ottomans while this area is inhabited since the Neolithic period!

You can't see me walking but a lot of locals did. It was March when I took those pictures so there weren't many tourists around. This changes massively during the summer!
You won't find any galleys anchored behind the protective stone walls of the port but there is an abundance of taverns to satisfy any gastronomic need! I have traveled all over Greece and there is no place with the quality of the Cretan food. If you go to the villages it is divine but even in the most touristic places, like this one, it is way above average!
The lighthouse is the biggest attraction. Everyone wants to take a picture in front of it or just hang out looking at it!
I don't know how was the life on the island when the Ottomans occupied it but they sure left some beautiful buildings behind, like this mosque in the middle of the pier.

In this little road, below, is my favorite coffee shop and although it doesn't have a direct view to the sea I always make a stop here! What a great spot to end one more Wednesday walk, a lovely challenge hosted by
