Sunday visits to archeological sites is kind of a personal tradition, especially the first Sunday of each month from November till March.
Why is that, you might ask.
Living in Greece usually means that there is an archeological site near you, wherever you are. They are scattered all over the country and millions of tourists visit them each year. But for the residents, visiting those jewels of our country is something that we'll do some day, that never comes.
During the five Sundays that I mentioned before (plus a couple more days), there is an extra motivation.

It's not that the entrance fee is so expensive that we can't go the other days but having a fixed date usually helps to cast the die. At least it helps me :)
So here I am, on the first Sunday of 2024, visiting the Venetian castle of Palamidi, at the town of Nafplio. It is the same castle that I see every day overlooking my home and I often photograph from afar, during my walks.
The problem with prearranged dates is that you can't predict the weather. And today was a bit cloudy and drizzling! Not that it stopped me from visiting the castle but I spent more time than usual indoors, in a bastion with many buildings and open rooms! I have already been in this castle a few times so I wasn't anxious to see everything at once!
I like the cloudy weather for photography. That is if it isn't totally overcast and I don't slip on a wet rock :)
And today was one of the good days, with the light coming and going, giving me interesting patterns to shoot. I even got a bit of blue sky at some point and a few rays of sun!
And I didn't slip at all :)
It was a nice change to see the town that I live from above and at the same time taking a deeper dive into the history of the place. I say deeper because in Nafplio history is loudly present in every step you make but of course inside the castle the same feeling is much stronger!
