¿Qué color nos viene a la mente cuando mencionamos la palabra “zanahoria”? Es muy probable que sea el color anaranjado. Y es que esta es la variedad que encontramos en la gran mayoría de tiendas, mercados y campos. Existe una historia detrás de dicho color, la cual nos cuenta que la selección de este color se debió en honor a Guillermo de Orange, quien fue considerado héroe nacional tras lograr la victoria contra la ocupación española en Holanda a finales del siglo XVI. Motivo por el cual se quiso honrar dando un color naranja a la mayor cantidad de productos. Y al ser Holanda una potencial agrícola en aquella época, comenzaron a cultivar la variedad naranja la cual se estableció con el pasar de los años como la favorita, además de ser demandada debido a las preferencias culinarias del momento.
Sin embargo, es importante saber que existe toda una variedad de colores de zanahorias, desde blanco hasta violetas intensos. Esta semana tuvimos una cosecha muy colorida en nuestra Casa Moche. Aquí les compartimos unas fotos de lo que fue nuestra cosecha.
Finalmente, cabe resaltar que cada color tiene un ligero sabor diferente, así como sus beneficios gracias a la diferencia de pigmentos.
