Have you ever thought about this? Think about it: What if you could live forever and ever. Would the future look bright to you? Think of all the things you could do or learn. But what if you were a procrastinator. Would you put off learning how to play the piano, something you've always wanted to do, for a hundred years. After all you now have, literally, all the time in the world! Why not wait?
Would you have the dim view of Am I going to have to work like a slave my whole term of eternity to just feed myself? - Ugh. But then again, you can't die so you wouldn't need to eat, right?
What about work? It gives the idea of career a new meaning doesn't it? And would vacations be like 300 years?
Now when I say live forever I'm including everyone. We all live forever. What would happen to child birth—would we have any? Hm?
For some, there is the common saying with regard to decisions made now: Oh it won't matter, I'll be dead in a hundred years. Well, what if you weren't! What if the decisions you made now affected you far into the future? Would you're viewpoint shift?
How would our laws change? What would our laws be like? Would some of us be as greedy now scamming people right and left to get their cut at the expense of others. After all, I'll be dead in a hundred years no longer applies. Think about this. What if you goofed-up so bad you got a life sentence in jail. An eternity in jail. That's not a happy thought. Would we be more altruistic? Would society leap forward? Would we go to the stars? I mean, you can only walk the earth so long before boredom sets in.
What if you wanted to opt-out from life, you know, do yourself in. Can't take this eternity thing any longer. Sorry kid, you're stuck living and that's it!
Think about relationships—Till death do us part—that's out the window!
How would society change? Really, how would it change? How would people change? Or would they? Would we all go around stabbing and shooting each other as we now cannot perish. I don't think so. The only reason the threat of death works in motivating people is because they can die! If you can't die, what's the point? I suppose you could get creative and threaten people with nuclear fallout if we didn't comply to their wishes, they'd just wreck the whole planet to get what they want. We'd all live on a ruined rock. Would people still be that crazy?
What about the little things like: Would you still celebrate your birthday—would you care? At what age do we stop aging? What is the perfect age to be for eternity?
I wonder how many dream of eternal life and the wonders it can bring but never really consider all that it would bring.
