I’ve always avoided dealing with witnesses because of the amount of politics, drama, and reading required just to have some idea of what’s going on. I used to cast random votes, but after that backfired enormously during the hard fork from Steem, I made it my #1 rule on the blockchain to avoid talking, acting, or involving myself in anything witness-related.
But it’s time for a change. A few days ago, I powered up (way) more aggressively than usual, and I realized that Hive isn’t run by a select few. It’s run by all of us. I powered up because I believe in this blockchain, and I want the best for it. Wanting the best means participating in decisions that will impact the blockchain. What happened with the hard fork is an unprecedented outlier, and at the end of the day, the whales, witnesses, and others with significant influence are still just people. While some might rule with an iron fist, I’m sure the majority are approachable and respect an adult debate, even if it contains criticism (and ends with a fresh pint).
So, from now on, I’m going to dive deeper into understanding all the witnesses and what they (want to) bring to the table. It’s going to take some time to research, but it will be worth it.
