Tailwind. That day while cycling, I was so fortunate to have a tailwind on the way out. I was also aware, that subsequent headwind would laze the way back home, and this was always lurking in the back of my mind. So onward I rode, dreamily at times, through the stillness of the scenery. The sunlight was trickling through the leaves of the trees, and the smells of the forest filled the air. It was one of those rides where you are simply able to turn your mind off, and just feel the beauty around you. No appointments, no rush, just the quiet humming of tires rolling on the asphalt, and the song of the birds.
I was riding a small, quiet country road that wrapped gently through the forest. For a second, seemingly out of nowhere, I slammed on the brakes. I almost did go by, but I saw something remarkable on the shoulder of the road draw my gaze. There it was, a gigantic mushroom, a true monster among the greenery. I was completely surprised at how nicely, and yet how showy it fit into the landscape. The sporadic encounter was enough to make me dismount my bike immediately.
I parked it and approached this natural marvel. It was crazy to see how it was nestled into the tall grass. Its scaly surface and large stature made it quite a sight. The different angles I was able to capture from below looking up at the sky, the overall view in green, the interesting layout of its cap above, reveal the beauty of nature in one object. Every angle brought new details that showed off the light of everything it was surrounded by.
It was a fantastic moment, far away from any everyday worries. Moments of this kind are what makes being out there enjoyable and shows me again and again how much we don't realize is beautiful at our doorstep if we are just aware of it. The forest tranquility, and the light and shadow play on this gorgeous mushroom. Together it created a perfect little escape that I absolutely wanted to capture in images.
