I'd like to talk about a trip I just took recently, where I was fortunate enough to get some great shots with my camera of some lovely birds. It's always such a pleasure to see and photograph these shy animals in the wild.
I was walking a field path near a forest, and all of a sudden I saw it. This lovely bird was sitting on an old fence. It almost appeared to be waiting for me. Like it was posing! As you may know, the time available for birds to be photographed is usually very short, so I did hesitate before pressing the shutter for a moment. Such a joy to be able to take those shots before it flew away again!
Just after that, I saw another feathered friend on a bare branch. This species is a brown bird with a strong striped tail (possibly a Spotted Flycatcher or possibly a Flycatcher), and its way of hunting insects from a prepared perch and catching insects in flight is so interesting. I couldn't help but notice the way it was cautiously scanning its surroundings!
My walk had even more surprises to offer. Soon after that I found this little thing stood on a branch in front of a wooden post. Depending upon features, like the striped breast, and relatively bland feathering we might be looking at a Yellowhammer in juvenile plumage, or corn bunting or something that's not quite fully fluffed and colourful. Identifying this bird is always fun, but ultimately it doesn't matter if you put it in the right box, just observing it is a pleasure.
And then for the best moment of the day! I got to take a picture of a lovely bird happily chewing away! These pictures also provide evidence of a Yellowhammer eating something in abundance - insects! You can certainly see the yellow colour, and distinctive markings on its head although it is feeding here. What an amazing close up sight of nature.
Finally I shall finish with this photo which was even less easy! It is a long distance photo, but I was so pleased to see a stork in the tall grass. Sometimes you just have to get your camera out and take a quick snap! It does not matter so much if does not reflect as perfect of an image. It does still capture the moment and certainly another great example of nature in the wild.✨
