Freight steam locomotives Ty2 / 42
The German Ty2 series was intended for serving the Eastern Front. It was the first ever construction where serial production and standard parts were used. In the years 1942-1945 almost 6,000 of these steam engines were built. They were equipped with a typical barrel tender for a simplified construction type 32D43 with a water chest capacity of 32 m³. The Ty2-406 steam locomotive is the only locomotive of this series, which is located in the Wolsztyn Roundhouse. It has the serial number 13821 and was produced at the MBA company in Sosnowiec in 1943. On the German railways he wore the designation 52 4770. He served in the engine depots in Jarocin, Gniezno, and since April 1989 he has been stationed in Wolsztyn. In the Wolsztyn engine house there is also a related Ty42 engine construction with the number 148. It was built in 1945-1946 in Polish factories of locomotives from unassembled parts of the Ty2 steam engines left by the Germans. A total of 150 pieces of these machines were assembled. Ty42-148 is the last of four copies of this series that were used in the Wolsztyn Roundhouse. It was built in 1946 in Chrzanów in the local locomotive factory. It is used to run local freight trains and maneuvering work. In the engine house there is also a locomotive Ty2-1298 set up as a monument, which was brought here from the locomotive depot in Choszczno.
