Auxiliary movements.
This refers to the extra work you do at the gym after your main movement/workout. So lets say you train squats 5X5, once your done that movement, how do you figure out what your auxiliary movements should be? This is the point in the workout where you work on your weaknesses. So after squats, pick movements that will build size or strength, that will help your legs. For example, you could do walking lunges with weight, or light deadlifts, or leg extensions, leg curls, even front squats. When performing these kind of movements, you will be doing high volume (10-12 reps), this is where you build size and strengthen the muscles that support your main movements. I usually pick 2-3 exercises and do 2 sets of 10 reps for each.
The other benefit of training in this manner is that your body has a hard time adapting from explosive training (low reps, heavy weight) to hypertrophy training (high reps, light weight). This results in higher fat loss and an increase in performance, if you are active in a sport. Traditional training is great for a limited time, but you will plateau, you want to pick a training method that you can constantly make small adaptations, while at the same time make consistent and measurable progress.
I will start posting my workouts at the end of all my blogs from now on, so that you can see what a week of train looks like for me, and how and why I increase my weights. If you have any questions or opinions of the content, leave a comment. The next story is for the ladies specifically.
